Default whats best to use to cover the ground when working on a car?

my next door but one is going away for a few days i told him i was going to do my clutch change this weekend, he said if i wanted i could use his drive cos ours is quite busy and i can't even fit my car in the garage .

anyway what is going to be the best to cover his drive it's got concrete pavers down so any oil will be there forever and he's been so nice in offering i'd kill myself if i did stain his drive, i'll need something fairly tough cos i'll have jack and gearbox moving around on it.

cheer's for any help

I like cardboard. It's smooth. Absorbs little spills, you don't feel any rocks on your back...

Best part is that you can move it around quite easily. Oh and it is recyclable.

i'm going to be more comfortable than at home in bed

so that boards, cardboard, tarp and towels i think i'd be ok if i dropped the hole car on that.

im only a smaller 5,11 and 14.5 stoner and my arms are smaller than your pic so i guess i wont be hurting you....
i posted a thread up during the week about the cat, it wasnt my fault as the police coming the other way hit it first and pinballed it right under my wheels..
im not a cat hater as i used to have 8 of the fuckers who all lived a long happy life until natural deaths .the last one left is now 19 years old. i sometimes just like the wind up and its easy on here especially with the animal lovers.

Off cuts of carpet work a treat. Soft to lay on and absorb spills. Most carpet places through there off cuts away so easy enough to get hold of

thats not me it's coleman look on colemans profile thats me with the misses ( i no it's confusing it's a long story lol), i'm only 14st myself but can't pinch an inch so hopefully some good has come of it.

i think i remem you saying about the cat thing didn't see how it turned out though i think you got benni's approval though and he's head honcho of the hole outfit .

we have 3 thats bad enough, how did you manage with 8 i'd of given up and just give them the house it'd of been easier, and 19 a bloody good age too, they usually just walk off and never come back when there that old , hope he/she keeps going though he still isn't the oldest cat i'v heard of some of them are real soldiers.

ask your neighbour to borrow his duvet, you dont want to get oil on yours.
it doesnt matter how thorough your precautions are , you will always spill some oil. usually right at the end once youve cleaned up and are thinking how well youve done youll kick over the tub of oil accidentally.....
im surprised your neighbours letting you if hes such a cleanliness freak. wouldnt it be safer to move some of your parked cars to his drive and do the work on your drive? or dont you want to get oil on your own drive?

how many gearboxes have you worked on before you'll realise that even when you drain it there will still be a residue of oil left and this will spill out just when you don't want it too .

there is nothing you can do about it just stop it from getting everywhere

and fuzzy good call, might get the rents to move there cars over and give me the space our tarmac is fucked so wont matter

8x4 sheet of wood, about 8 quid from wickes for the cheapest grade, they're brilliant for that job.

the jacks roll round easy on them, any spills can be contained, and if you drop bolts you can get them straight away. your not looking through cracks in slabs for them.

my only trouble is getting it here, will it fit into the back on a hatch mondy Ł8 sounds a bargain too, tbh it's a really good call but i'm about to make a start once i get off here so might just suck it and see with a few smaller boards, i'm hanging on in here i don't wanna go outside

don't use a tarp !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the boot carpet in my dads mondeo is testament that tarps are shit when it comes to oil - it seeps through the weave !! get a pond liner - they're about 3mm thick, movable and strong.
