Default What do you consider to be a "quick" car?

What do you all consider a quick car to be? I know alot of people who have perforamce/modifed cars, C20XE nova's, RS turbo's, VAG 1.8t's, Evo's etc and they all say thier car is really quick... A few weeks ago a friend let me drive his modified Audi RS6, this had at the time around 580BHP and this is the only car i've driven/been in that i could honestly turn round and say is "fast".

What power to weight ratio does a car have to have before it can be considered "quick"?

Views please.

Around 500bhp/ton a car starts to feel brutal. Beyond that is how high a speed you want it to continue feeling brutal.

I'd say for road use, anything around the 300 bhp mark, with a suitable torque figure to match (based on personal preference).

I'd imagine that something like the new TT-RS would be very swift across country, as would it's peers.

Id say anything much over 350bhp with torque to match will be fast. Anything much below that wont necessarily have any higher peak acceleration than say a 200bhp car, just be able to keep accelerating like that much longer. eg my car at 20psi doesnt accelerate too hard IMO, and ive had similar wieght 200bhp cars that accelerate just as hard at thier peak. key difference is my car will accelerate like that over a much longer time than just a short peak of acceleration.

in my opinion about 280 300 bhp is about good for the road.
but talkin acceleration. anything under 16seconds is quick anything under 14 seconds is very fast and sub 12s is stupidly fast. on the road anyway.

my RX7 *was* about 470bph and it was rediculously quick, infact verging unusable and then it blew up. my cossy about 300 and its perfect for the road, use it daily. gunna re build the rx7 to about 320bhp

that my opinion anyway

I think it also comes down to the car, a big luxury car can be powerful and fast but not feel it, where as a small tin pot running half the power can feel like you flying.

thrust 2 is quick

dunno but the fastest thing i'v been in is my mates 350ish bhp 200sx and that just kept pulling like a train all the way across the speedo , being rebuilt to around 500bhp so would be shocked to see what it'll be like then, i'm not the best of passengers though so will probably clean my seat after

also anything super light like some of the big powered westfields would feel quick i reckon.

Always made me laugh when you used to red in ebay/autotrader adverts for Fiesta XR2i's, and they'd say 'quick car'. Clearly never been in quick car then!
A lot of people I know say standard XE Novas/Corsas are quick...then I had one and soon got bored.

Depends totally on what your used to really, anything that runs sub 13 second quarters is starting to really go, as that will see off 90% of cars you'd meet on the road normally.

I thought an e46 m3 was quick but I've not been out in many proper fast cars.
A mate has a "450" horse supra that is quick but doesn't feel brutal. I like my golf but its already boring, needs a charger of some sort to be brutal

Agreed,

The fastest feeling car I have ever been in was an Uno Turbo. This thing was like lightning. Obviously not as fast as it felt, but when you're hurtling along back roads at some crazy speeds with just a few mm of Italian tin under your backside it felt like the quickest thing on the planet.

Was also the scariest car I've ever owned. Wish I still had it, our time together was too brief...

0 60 in a 2wd is no use 0 100 is where its at...you wont get many rwd road cars doing 0 60 in under 3 secs..big bhp coosies 0 60 is in the 4s but 0 100 should be 7s or less..thats a fucking quick car!!

I have a rule of 3's to determine a fast car.

300 brake (or more)
3000 pounds (or less)
3 doors

Meet these three and you have my attention.

Don't think so literally. The MP4-24 has zero doors and it's quick.

My jag has almost 300 brake. 4 doors. My saff has a 280 chip. 4 doors.

My 3 door has much more power than that. It gets my attention.

Attention is not fast.

i have been in a pulsar gtir running 290 bhp and that ate cars with almost twice the power. Its all down to power to ratio. A stripped out clio 182 happily keeps up with a 300 cosworth with the right driver obviously
