Default Sapphire Cosworth ECU + Chip, HALP!

I have a level6 ECU and I have just bought another Chip for it.

The new one is the one on the left. The one I took out is the one on the right. I'm wondering if it would be worth trying to sell it as I was told it's a Stage1 chip.

Although after looking through previous posts, I suspect it is a standard one. Anyone know?

Also, I know there are two ways you can put these chips into the ECU. In the picture you can see that the chip has a small indent on one end, and the space in the ECU where the chip goes also has a small indent. I should put it in in a way where both indented ends line up, yeah?

yes, indent to indent. that's the entire reason for the indent's existence, it would be a pity to ignore the little fella

I personally woudlnt touch those with a bargepole if you dont actually know what calibration is on them. They may not even be for a cosworth, in fact, they may be out of you local traffic lights. LOL

if you need to ask which way to insert the chip, leave it to a expert!

Usually it saves money in the long run

The one on the left is a 'Bayjoo - Stage 2 level 6'.

The one on the right is the one i'm not sure of, but I KNOW it's not out of a traffic light! Haha

While it was in my Sapphire I could do a standing start 0-60 in JUST over 5 seconds and run a low 14 on the 1/4 mile. Does that give any idea on identifying it?

I know the other specs would be of relevance, but other than the exhaust and (possibly that chip) it was all standard.

The "expert" that is rebuilding my Engine suggested I could do it myself, and he told me which way to put it in as i'm always asking if there's anything simple that I can do...I enjoy working on it.

However, I have forgotten what he said and it is evening/night time here and i'm not going to call him at home.

Good advice though!

Looks more like an original Space Invaders ROM for an arcade machine to me.

If your new one is Stage 2, make sure you change your injectors - the standard yellow ones will be useless. You'll need Bosch 803 'Dark' Greens, or, at the very least 'Light' Greens. Your standard injectors won't supply enough fuel for Stage 2. If you have any documentation from the chip's previous owner, consult that. Sadly it's not quite a case of plug'n'play with ECU chips.

It's a shame the L6 hasn't got a joystick port or video output.

Haha

Thanks for the extra info.

Yeah, the guy from the work shop gave me a whole shopping list of parts along with recommending that Chip. Like you mentioned...the 803's aswell as 3 Bar Map Sensor, -31 Actuator, GT2876R etc

It cost me just over $3,000NZD, about 1,200 GBP's (not including the Turbo of course)!

Although I haven't upgraded fuel pump, fuel regulator...

Such expensive Toys.

Yeah, thanks, I know that.

The sticker was peeling off my old one, and I wanted to look at the numbers/coding (out of interest) on the new one. I took both labels/stickers off and replaced.

I read that it's not advisable to leave the visible internal area of the chip exposed to light, so I put that tape on them.

It's the UV that wipes them.

I bought:
-31 Actuator
ARP Head Studs
The Chip
High Pressure Oil Pump (with the drive shaft)
10mm Magnecors
ARP Big End Bolts
3 Bar MAP Sensor
4x 803's
0-Ring Cam Bearing Housing
Camshaft Oil Seal
Exhaust/Inlet Manifold Gaskets
Cam Cover Gasket
8x Inlet/8 x Exhaust Valve Stem Seals
Bottom End Gasket Set
Multi-Shim Cometic Head Gasket

It didn't look like $3k worth when I looked in the box! I'm sure it'll pay off though. I also bought some JE Pistons and have had the block rebored etc. The head also had some work.

Since I was having it sent over here (NZ), I didn't have to pay the VAT. However, Customs got me for the tax when it arrived here.

Thats the batch code of the 2764 EPROM Danny. They will have likely run off in excess of 1 million of those with that code before running to a new batch. All blank.

I don't see where I displayed any "silly attitude".

You're not just being a bit sensitive or misreading something, are you? Maybe you have other things going on in your life?

you are better off getting a chip matched to your exact spec. this is a much better option as you KNOW the chip will be right for your spec

the guy above STU @ Mdevelopments supplies excellent chips, normally off the shelf - i ran one in my cossie
