Ford focus zetec 1800cc/ shuddering
can anyone help me with this problem? the speedo will sometimes be on zero during driving, then randomly go up to correct speed Also, when driving at eg. 30/40 mph in3rd/4th gear the car will start to shudder as if its in to high a gear for the speed. it can happen at any speed. Thanks.

its more than likely the vehicle speed sensor is playing up as the engine management takes readings off that for fuelling.
another issue could be the instrument cluster.only 2 real problems that focus suffer from when it comes to speedo dropout

as said above. it was the vss on my sisters 1.8 focus and on my old 2.0 focus.
can be a bit of a pain to change as theres a roll pin holding it in that can snap off in the gearbox.

v reg focus 1.8 shudder
i have started to get a shudder when i put my foot down happens mainly in 3rd 4th and 5th
its not the same as the balance being out and u getting a shudder at 80 or 90mph the whole front end of the car rocks from side to side
u can feel a funny bounce as well at about 50 as if a tyre has a bubble
now i have just had the car mot'd 2 weeks ago brand new tyres new coil pack new exhaust new plugs new anti roll bar arm new handbrake solonoid new front brakes new clutch plate.
has anyone got any ideas....
