I believe its only the R32 that is switchable iirc, but i may be wrong, and should be ables to cope with 550+hp again iirc

All skyline 4x4 boxes can be switched to 2wd, but only the 32 box can be ran 2wd without causing centre diff damage.
33 and 34 boxes will drag the centre clutch and overheat in time.
Big bonus is the power they can take, but there big

So are any of them permanent 4wd then? i.e. same as with no pumps fitted?

I always thought they were all 2wd until the rear span up and the jiggery pokeries kicked in?

Yes they are 2wd with slip drive to the front. But the later boxes have a fair bit of electronics to run them and yes the pump and bits are needed

the R32 and 33 are almost identical the transfer is the same and can be used in 2 or 4wd, without pressure they are all 2wd, its only when you ramp up the pressure on the clutch pack that the transfer sends drive to the front.

the pics i posted are of a r33 gearbox, the 2nd is of the pump to run the box. i used these in my mk4 escort, with cos 4x4 conversion.there are quite a few on ebay,so have a search, and you can see the differences to the r32 box.

you will need to extend the tunnel by 30 cm on the drivers side for the transfer case, and up by 15cm around the gear lever.

you will need a rear prop making
hydraulic center push clutch
if you use the liner pump, you will need a controller from reyland
i used a mocal oil pump, and a return valve to vary the pressure, worked very well.
0 to 50 in 2.3 seconds,

martin should be able to get the bell housing welded for you.

i guess they are too much trouble, for little profit.
fixing the new bell housing on,has to be precise, flat machined surfaces.so the the box needs a complete strip down.

iam sure martin still does the 11k conversion,to the os gieken box

what are GTR boxes like with launching??? If they can handle 450 plus BHP and still survive the odd launch then with the added flexibility of selectable 4wd/rwd then they must be a stong competitor to the bara type boxes.

ive never been in a car that launches like a 500bhp skyline, it just gripped and went

plus theres a lot of work involved, like half the tunnel needs to be modified and you can never go back to a std gearbox again, due to taking out the original gearbox mounts, custom props made, hydraulic pumps for 4wd system, custom bell housing, clutch, and hydraulic clutch conversion, custom gearbox cradle, theres loads of worked involved in doing the conversion properly, ive been looking into this since it was started being done, and even had llyodd do my tunnel ready on my sierra but scrapped the shell lol

was sriously wanting it for the escort cos as i can get a skyline gtr box ad eerything easly, its just the bell housing im struggling to find sumwhere to do, but now im going to stick with a bara i think

trouble is my car isnt completed yet and have still got loads of work left to do on the shell thats why im looking into this conversion as a bit more welding isnt a problem on mine at the moment,do i need to use a cossie bellhousing or is there another bellhousing i could use instead

Seems likeit could be the answer if the rest of the fabrication work wasnt such a pain in the arse. I presume onece this is all done the OSG box would just all bolt up if you wanted to upgrade?

Not true!! Dangerous's car had a Skyline box that I fitted when Sean owned it (thats the one Lloyd bought) and now it has an MT75.

It was mentioned that the Skyline front prop is a straight fit, that's not the case.

Yes and no! The OS Giken box is not the same shape as the standard item so it depends on what tunnel mods were originally done to accomodate the standard Skybus box.

The OG Giken conversion uses a proper belhousing thats only available from myself.
