You should of said your not happy with it. If I was to pay for a 450bhp engine to be built, I would want 450bhp lol. What turbo and boost are you running?

I think harvey gibbs is meant to be one of the top builders. I know alot use him....

seems odd to shell out on a cosworth donkey and then start asking q's !!

especially since his little fella comes on here

having seen his engines go and knowing people who have spent hard earned on them i'd say they are right up there.

mines ran near 680 for nearly two years of non stop track abuse and only took it out to change it for an 800 lump from him

450 Bhp is a odd number for a YB engine, it falls right into the middle of the main turbo choices of T34 or T4/ GT30 which give approx 400 and 500BHP...

Is that in the car or on the dyno, as in car you can loose quite a few BHP with driven items like alternator, power steering and the cars own intercooler and exhaust restrictions etc...

Harvey has been round long enough, there are horror stories about any tuner so it is a case of talk to your chosen tuner, work out a spec and budget and stick to it..

He built my engine over 7 years ago and apart from me running the engine out of water a few years back and popping a HG ( opps ) it's been brilliant...

Wouldn't hesitate buying another upgrade off him if money was floating about.

Harvey, Ann and Tim are excellent and nice people too

I highly recommend them

T38 ? Had a 450bhp lump built by Harvey and this is what he used on mine and others that i know of for this power. Great bloke and his engines are top class. If he told you he was building you a 450bhp lump you wouldnt get 412bhp IMO. What turbo has he used he is not the sort of person to build you an engine using a T34 and tell you its going to be 450bhp, cause at the end of the day its only going to make him look silly when it goes on the dyno.

ofcourse, as already said, every tuner out there has had problems, and has unhappy costomers at one point,

no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, however much we dont want to, it does happen

The T38 is a bit of an odd turbo IMHO, makes the power but Torque is appalling compared to a T34 or T4..

Never used harvey for anything big myself, but did a good job on my mates saff, and did a nice job on my big wing sump. At the end of the day you are dealing with very highly tuned 2.0 engines here, anything over 400BHP will have problems at some point or another, no matter how careful the build. It is just a fact of life IMHO, and I would certainly trust SCS with my car, and I am a total nutral in this situation. ...

Have to agree there, mine made 456bhp on my saff with only 353ft/lb, shit really as compared to some T34 cars out there.....

Although 353 isn,t to be sniffed at mind you....

If you had asked for 450 you would have it.

Im sure his 450 engines are closer to £8000 though so clearly you didnt tell him what you wanted and you obviously just "hoped" it would be 450.

PEAK torque from a T38 may seem low compared to the short lived (rev's-wise) spikes achieved on a T34 Will, but the spread of torque is much better (and don't forget when you came out in mine, it was carrying a few hundred KG extra )

My 450bhp engine has been bullet proof. Best Cosworth engine builder in the business IMO. My tuner of choice for more years than I want to admit

Love these sort of posts - minimal info, a bit of implied controversy and watch the post count rack up......

As said above, if you'd asked & paid for 450, you'd have got it.
