To attack 215 in 1.5miles you need over 950bhp, I have that potential. If Andrew has the same he also will do it, with 800bhp he will struggle to pass 207/208. Its not rocket science its the only discipline where Power counts for everything. If mine can push the RS record over 213 I will be more than happy & retire content.
Andrews car is by far the best prepared Cossie engined car around by a margin & to be talked of as having a chance of out running him is shall we say absurb & im proud of that. My old girl is an old campaigner at this lark & will take some beating it should be good.

Only if there aero dynamics is vastly superior.
The Brunters record is 223mph with 960bhp dynoed in a ffs Porsche, we can never compete with that in our brick like Fords unless we have over 1150bhp & its the reason I believe records can only be compared with cars with the same body shape.

Rod out of interest if a Fiesta Mk3 can run 179.8 with 400/410 hp what would you need give or take, to do 190mph or even 200mph.

Forgive my ignorance, but did the focus do any top speed runs before it got modded recently??? And the question is, do you plan to do any to see what it can do???

For a safe bet i'll say Rod's saph for top speed
And andy's for everything else

Would be good to be wrong though and see some other cars emerge from the unknown.

Around 550 for 190 & 640 for 200mph I guess if your figures are correct. Need a chunk of Power to pull much longer gearing needed to add 20mph to your Topspeed.

Their is another Sapphire being prepared at this time with the sole purpose I quote " Of wasteing the RS Cosworth Topspeed record " on a personal note this is my main challenge for 2010, I hope we get the chance to do battle against it.
Think several othe Cossies will be over 200mph before end of 2010, I wish these challengers had been around 5years ago when 200mph was considered very uncool & of little point. I will be 65 in 2010 & getting a bit long in the tooth for all this excitement .
Anyone know what the invalid car Topspeed record is may be challenging for that soon .

Why is FWD classed as the best drive setup for topspeed?

And are you saying if my car had roughly 550bhp it could do 190mph -

Aren't st170 gearboxes geared to something stupid like 190? Hmmm..

Gearing/revs is the decider on that. The st170 box wont do that unless the engine has power and long long LONG revs!

Having a guess in that FWD is preferred for top speed attempts due to less transmission loss and inefficiencies.

Hmmm I wonder what power you can get out of a 2.0 duratec turbo.......

Sure someone split the block on one when he was going for 800hp, think 500ish might be safe. Well this is interesting!!!!

I meant the best in terms of it saps less power, so generally you need less power to do 200mph with FWD than with RWD or 4WD

Mid engined cars are essentially the same as a FWD from this point of view.

Andy G will be quickest on track and 1/4mile. Harvey Gibbs car will be fast too though.

If rods gets his out he will probably take top speed unless AG gets some NOS into it. Although didn't it do 196mph with the old engine which was 150bhp(ish) down on the new one? If so he could see 205-210mph, maybe more?

All in my opinion of course.

It takes more than 150bhp extra to get you from 196 to 210 mate.

Bear in mind that to do 210, you need to be able to hit 180 in half a mile, to do 196 you need to be able to do 180 in a mile, thats a BIG difference.
Its like going from a 120mph terminal to a 140mph terminal at the pod!

Doing 210 is probably going to need around 850bhp
so yes if he nitroused it, he would have a good chance.

(im sure Rod can give more accurate figures, those are just my rough ballparks)

So you need to get that first 180mph out of the way in half the distance, as well as having the power to pull the remainder of course, which also takes much more power too.

Agree.

To be fair Scottys car was a road registered rally car.

Not a purpose built racing car

But I do agree. Andy has moved the game on!!!!

Will be great to see him out again, but I think you are underestimating AndrewG's car somewhat TBH mate.

9.5 second quarter equates to a 0-60mph time well into the 2s

What is steve scott's best 0-60?

Cause charlie shaw has also done a sub 3 second timed run as well I believe.

Thing is when scotty, andy, stewart whyte, chris doc raced a good few years back they all ended up in escorts due to regulations the fiesta & focus were banned! The 4 cars were all about the same & it made very good racing! but a perfect example is when stewart whyte attended the smrc at knockhill in his escort (brought out from retirment) he couldnt get near andrew in the new focus andrew was miles ahead.Stewarts escort hadnt changed from the days of racing scotty. What that proves is the focus is miles ahead now compared to back then.SO scotty best pull his wooly socks right up .
He can pedal scotty tho seen some good battles between him & stewart ending in lots of panel damage proper racing.

As fast as Martoons old car I believe, sub 3 0-60 and maybe sub 6 to 100mph.

Still nothing like as mental as the SWB Evo doing sub 5 0-100 wasn't it

Should be a good year though, some great Fords about now, as mentioned though the AG Focus in a bit of a league of its own with that much power and such a good setup, nearest thing I know of to compare it to is what was the blue WRC Escort from Norway which was built with no limits but sadly was never timed.
