Question Parts Washer pump, custom.

I'm making a parts washer for my unit cause i've just got a twin sink and want to use on of them as parts washer. I've got a big drum for storing the fluid and plan to have chemical coming from the tap, with a gauze in plug hole to catch sediment before draining back into drum underneath.

I just need a pump that'll work well. My sisters horsebox has an auto pump for the taps in the living area, switch it on, it runs when the tap is open, stops when you close it. This would be ideal!

Just wondered what will withstand the cleaning fluid, and which fluid is best for parts washing??

Buy a cheap caravan lift pump....probably the same as your sisters.

£15-20 should buy one, and they come in various shapes and sizes. Usually 12v DC

Buy a brushless impellor pump, a real good cleaning fluid is parrafin, just make sure you use a sediment layer in tank when draining back otherwise it will block easy.

Our parts washers at work have a filter on the inlet pipe that sits in the drum to stop the pump getting blocked. Handy things to have! Make sure you wear a face mask though as that stuff fooking stings when it gets in your eyes!

check that the pump is suitable for the chemical going through it. any seals may get attacked by the cleaning fluid.

^^ This was my concern, ideally a pump from a parts washer, but i can't find one.

After my original post i decided it better to have two tanks, one small (5 litre) and on larger (15 litre) and have them setup like a gravity filter. First tank fills up and sediment falls to the bottom and the fluid flows from the top into the top of the other tank, which will be pretty much clean.

Saves wasting fluid when refreshing/removing sediment.

Something along these lines but a bit cheaper, i don't mind having to wire it up to a transformer, as i plan to have it hard wired into the mains on a fused switch.
