Is this where you have a lambda sensor that is constantly sending a signal to the Ecu of the air/fuel ratio and the Ecu adjusts itself according???

"Closed loop" is a generic method of control. (Sometimes called P.I.D.)


When applied to fuelling, using a lambda sensor, fuelling corrections
for light and mid load ONLY are made automatically but only during
constant load conditions I.E. Idle, cruising etc....


When applied to boost pressure, on some cars the ecu can control exactly
the boost pressure is applied to the engine by comparing the actual map
sensor reading with a required value and pulsing a control valve (AMAL)
to regulate the boost up and down.

Closed loop is any control system in which an signal is sent to a control box, compared with the desired signal, and then the control box adjusts an actuator to attempt to get the output the same as the desired signal.

If you are talking standard cars, the green top will be better on fuel emmisions.
Otherwise depends if the uprated car has the closed loop lambda enabled
in the chip and how good the base map is in the first place.

I about to get a new stage 3 chip on my 4x4 Redtop, which has no lambda although the loom has the lambda socket...

so i guess im wondering if it is possible to use closed loop even on the wd048.08 ecu???

This will depend on the chip. It can be enabled or disabled at the mappers will.

If I am honest I dont know if the red top L8 ecu has the required hardware to read the lambda sensor.
It is the only cossie ecu I have not had direct experience with.

Best to ask your chip supplier

Yes - It had a dead chip - Dont know why as it was tested before it was sent

As far as I know (which isnt far at all!), the red top does not have the required hardware to read the Lambda sensor. The reason I say this is because my emissions needed to be detuned and we needed an L8 to do this.

Someone correct me if this is wrong.

 

Do you mean a Red Label L8 as opposed to a Green Label L8???

Both to my knowledge are L8's, one can control Lambda (green) and the other cannot.

Just not sure why, cause my Redtop has the lambda connection in the loom....
