PassionFord Post Whore!!
So the orginal prototype judging by the last link was had a BDT engine.
And the 2.4 opel engine one was N/A
I bet the Astra in the orginal Video had a BDT engine?

The prototype did Paris Dakar with a N/A Cosworth built 400 engine
Car broke reverse gear trying to drive out of deep sand, no one at the time thought you would need a mega strong reverse gear
There is also a Sprintex (originally) supercharged engine in an astra 4S, Vauxhall still own.

What a blast from the past I was actually at that race at Cadwell all those years ago and although I am a die hard RS fan I can't deny that the astra was Awesome!

Spoke to John Welch a while back and he informed me that this particular Astra was bought buy a norwegan guy just for the transmission, he presumed the shell was scrapped.
Must admit that Johns astra for me was my fav rallycross car then the 205t16, also one of the best battles was the Astra against the t16 at croft in the internations, on youtube if anyone would like to put up.

yep especially when they have a cosworth belt drive turbo ala rs200 shoved in.
no wonder Welchy bought it and did a rallycross programme in it,it was a lot of car and he probably got it cheep.
after doing a bit more digging i found that the bloke who said that Welchy converted a Astra 4 into a rallycross car used to work for him painting Gartrac escorts for Gartrac, no wonder Welchy had a Gartrac escort rallycross car.
you would wouldn't you,i paint your cars you sort me a shell

Wasn't the X-trac system totally different in the way it tranferred the drive to the front wheels as opposed to the layout in say the 4x4 cossie? vaguely remember reading an article on the x-trac escort about it

hey up matey
them early xtrac escorts had a lever that split the percentage from 50-50 to 60-40 70-30 etc, while the car was driving on the move.
the boxes that mr rallycross were using before they went 4x4 were hewland formula 1 gearboxes
hewland f1 boxes that used to be mint rallycross boxes http://www.hewland.com/svga/productrange/fgc.htm
hewland gb's prices... http://www.hewland.com/svga/2008_Price.pdf
imagine buying a new xtrac formula 1 box now to stuff in a focus

was that the black one or am i getting confused with bert brodin Mr S ???
It has to be said that by the later 80's the ford rs 200 was the daddy in rx competition, yeah the t16's and evo quattros and 6r4's were amazing but a kit car from staffordshire with a cosworth donkey driven by a viking conquered all in my opinion lol
who remembers gary baker,thor holm,tommy rustad,trevor hopkins,bengt wikland,matti alamaki,mark renison,martin iversen,jan arthur iversen and pekka rattanen etc.
infact whatever happened to gary baker,he was sponsored by joe bloggs after q8 and yes i owned some joe bloggs clobber, can you still get joe bloggs ??
