Default FAO Office workers... - work shirts...

What brand shirts do you usually buy and how do they fair up in terms of lastability etc?

For years i've always bought TM Lewin shirts, mainly because they (or used to) last. Over the last 12 months i've noticed that they arent even lasting 6 months now! Getting fedup chucking £100 out for 4 shirts 4 times a year (always aim for 8 work shirts in my wardrobe!).

Never tried any from Hawes & Curtis, Pinks etc??

Where does anyone else buy theirs and what sort of money do you pay?

I buy whatever I see at the time, don't go for a specific brand as long as it's 100% cotton.

Pink shirts are spot on and wear really well, you'll easily get a year out of one (a lot more if you've got 8 to rotate) but they're not cheap so you'll spend a lot more initially, anywhere from £50 to £175 per shirt.

I bought some Daniel Hetcher shirts from John Lewis, they are very good quailty but i think they were £60-£80 each, tired of buying shit that looks mishaped and washed out after a couple of months.

Bought 3 from Pinks yesterday, had one ironed and wore it last night. I liked it... 4 times the cost of the Lewins ones I normally buy though.

I goto a tailor in Dubai now as it's so cheap and they are the best shirts that I've ever had. Even if you go for the top end of the fabric ranges it works out alot cheaper than the shirts I used to get in the UK. I had the tempelate done for free as I got 10 shirts the first time came in less than £1k! Each time I order now it's around £65 - £100 per shirt, and they are spot on. I've even added my own little homo design into the shirt pocket, it's a pocket within it for my pen how anal

Had the templete redone a couple of times though with my ever expanding Dubai body

Nick - have heard its real hot which is putting me off!! Think im going to have to turn it down, too many ties over here really to pack and fook off!! (although its very tempting to!). Fair few opportunities come up so can always choose to at a later date! Will let you know though and get in touch .

Lee - Ivy is alright mate, looks a bit gash on the outside but the food is really good. Think I had a lamb shank when i last went, never tasted one as good!!!! (Chris Martin from Coldplay was on the table next to us!)

Lewins shirts are very common/cheap in the city. On par with shirts from NEXT.

Thomas Pink.. hmm, some are ok. The rest are very bog std. There is a sale on at the mo and 'some' bargains to be had

My advice would be to go to Emmett. Superb shirts that last. About £110 a pop but worth it. I have about 15 I think..that all get worn.
Excellent double alternate patterns behind the double cuffs.

I also reccomend Paul Smith shirts. HOF do quite a good selection by cannon street. Or order direct.

Only problem i've got in paying £100+ for a shirt is being in IT i do have to rumble around under desks etc sometimes...... I dont have any issues in spending that on smart shirts / going out etc etc but for work i couldnt really justify it. Think i'll give Pinks a go this afternoon and maybe pop into Hawes & Curtis.

Definitely right about the Lewins shirts, gone well down hill over the last couple of years.

You should just pack up and come out mate. Best thing I ever did to be honest, don't get me wrong I miss the UK and did have it pretty easy there but don't regret it for 1 min. Work like a c**t out here and it has paid off big time. Just bought into a business and have got really busy, including a 30% part of the biggest active job in Dubai!! Just a bastard that I have broke my arm at such a critical time

CFoster, beware.... Hawes & Curtis are around or below Lewins level. Poor shirts. Thin and nasty.

I thought i'd get one, one day as I had an unexpected all nighter and needed a change. I ended up the other side of the city in Emmett!

One of the indian guys I used to work with used to get absolutely awesome shirts made over in india for about 20 quid each, they looked like 10 times that at least, wouldnt have looked out of place on saville row.
All hand tailored too, personally I just buy any shirt that seems reasonable quality but luckily I dont have to wear a shirt most days anyway and I never wear them when not forced to I feel far more comfortable in casual clothes these days.
