Does it matter if I through with phones4u, and will I loose the good credit rating I've been getting through paying on time? The only reason I wish to cancel is because I've been messed about something rotten. Phones4U have had the phone more than I have. One snotty nosed cretin even said 'My Dad's never had a phone all his life'. Well guess what you cock, your Dad isn't paying you monthly for one.
P.S Why do I need the Pac code, what does it do?

Great info thanks mate!
I've been looking for an easy way out of my Orange contract [without paying] since we moved and I can only get signal down the end of the garden I divert voice calls to home when I'm there, but always forget to switch that off when I go out

RESULT!
Well after listening to Pink and Kings Of Leon, I got through to them and was asked my password which I never knew. Typical of me, but easily sorted when I told him some personal details. I told him I wanted to cancel and he told me my contract didn't end for 11 months. I told him they had breeched the contract, and he never even asked me what I meant, he just said 'Would you like some cheaper line rental, or a better deal?' I said no, and he said it's ended straight away and goodbye.
They must be well and truly bombarded with people doing it, as he never even questioned it at all.
All the curses I've ever wished upon you Chip, I take them all back!!

Im actually happy with Orange at the moment, but phoned up anyway to disconnect, had to go through a couple of people before I got to someone who could do something about it, but I now have 15 pounds a month discount off my line rental till the end of my contract in exchange for accepting the new conditons
Well worth a phone call!

Paddy if it doesn't work, I had the same thing with Vodafone and rang the CS department and said a phone with no signal at home is useless to me.
They made me jump through a few hoops, signal boosters and that shit (they funded it) but after ringing back again when it obviously didn't work (the booster they told me to get from ebay!!!!) the operator laughed at the stupidity of his own team and cancelled the contract.
Perseverance is key

Just gave them a call regarding the text and asked if he could do anything for me on the account. Said he could drop Ł10 off the line rental for the remainder of the contract. I them asked if he could do Ł15 as I knew someone who had Ł15 off but he couldn't. Then offered me another 200mins to go with the Ł10 discount.
Have some green for the orange.

I just rang up there out of interest to see if it works, when i rang up the guy said yes you got the text on the 25th and you can cancel no problem but cause i already get 400loyalty mine and Ł5 a month off plus he said they would put Ł10 on my account credit which would easily cover any of the costs from the price increase if by some chance i did go over my mins it really wouldnt be worth while me doing so.
My last contract i had Ł10 a month off like above but when i renewed they wouldnt do Ł10 again only Ł5. Thats why not they wont give me any more money off monthly cause i already get 400 mins and Ł5 off.
To be fair i dont think for Ł25 a month i will get 1000 mins and unlimited texts anyway.
The call charge thing they have put up is if you go over your free mins the first min instead of being 5p is 15p but after the minute it drops back to 5 p anymore so its bugger all anyway.
Good if you arent happy with the contract tho and want out. Just would cost me more a month if i left so i just said i would think about it and get back to him. I have until the 25th of this month to cancel anyway.

I've had a little read of the article and I'm a little confused.
Is this going to affect all current contract users or just the ones who took a contract out after or during the month of may?
How do I find out if it will affect me? I'm not with it at all this morning :S

I got the price increase text from Orange a few days ago, I am going to give them a call when I get home.
Nice info Chip, hopefully I will get a decent line rental reduction too.

Basically they have put the price of a call if you go over your free mins
Used to be if you went over the free mins it was 5p a min
From Sept it will be 15p for the first min then 5p a min after the first min
Cause they have done this, it is a brecch of contract which means you have the right to ring up and cancel.
If you havent recieved the text ring up anyway,
Youre told you can only cancel if youve received a text message informing you of the changes - if you havent, you cant
If youve been told that you can only cancel if youve received a text, then politely ask: Will the increases in call charges affect me?
If the answer is no, then ask why not. Get a specific reason - it may be addressed by another point in this guide. You might be told you dont exceed your minute allowance, for example - in which case, see above.
If the answer is yes, then point out clause 16.1 of your Orange contract states that you can be informed of the changes by any agreed method, which includes direct communication with Orange. Youve just been informed of the changes over the phone, and so you dont need to receive a text.
However, some comments have suggested that Orange are deliberately staggering the texts, which means there may be a valid reason as to why you havent received one yet. If the operator still refuses and requests you wait until a text is sent, ask for a specific date when the text will be sent. It has to be before mid-August so you have 30 days to give notice. Agree that if you dont receive it on this date, that you can call back and cancel. Take the operators full name and then ask for a note to be put on your account. If you have to call back again, point out that Orange are already in breach of contract by refusing to let you cancel.

I hadnt had the text, when I phoned up the first thing I asked was:
Hi, please can you tell me how much it is to call a non orange UK mobile?
I believe it was only 5p a minute when I signed up to my contract last year, can you confirm that
REPLY: Yes, there has been a price increase
I would like to cancel my contract, then as per above, I went round the houses a bit and eventually got offered a new phone or a discount, I like my phone so went for discount, I was on 10 pounds anyway, but got it increased to 15

its great when networks screw up!
when you go through to them its retentions you end up speaking to so they can and will try to change your plan to keep you with them, just keep at them that you want to cancel and they cant stop you as long as you took your contract before june09.
keep your old phone, keep your number.. cancel your contract early.. i took mine in may and have basically said to them hat i want another free blackberry curve8900 and unlimited messages adding to my accout.. awaiting a call back

My contract isn't up until December but I'm eligible for an upgrade in September so I think I might wait until September & then use this as a bartering tool.
