2000 w BMW 530d lumpy idle. Any ideas?
Bought the car on thursday and it drives great but today it has developed a lumpy idle. if you turn it off then start it again it runs smooth again untill you rev it then it returns. any ideas as to what the problem could be would be welcomed. i dont really want to return the car to the dealer as my wife has fell in love with it.

Team HOTHOT!
Swirl flap as said above - sort it out asap if you don't want to destroy your engine (it will drop down the inlet tract into your cylinder bore)
OR
Faulty injector causing fueling issues at idle - quite a common problem.

It is for real - The swirl flaps are on the inlet manifold - 6 of the buggers (1 per port) and they fail and fall into the inlet tract and then get injested into the cylinder bore and smashes the valves and piston to bits

If it's manual won't have them - me and Alex disagree on this though.
Don't think turning off and on would rectify that temporarily anyway??
Lots of modern cars have these buggers, not just bmw's.

Yep, and they're not so hot on turbos going either...
Although think a lot of that's down to the service length on the egr breather/valve, which was fairly recently shortened.
