IIRC and its the same one from a Fast Car feature I read a few years ago its in a focus lookalike (massively legnthened) drag car that did 9's. I think the car had a red and black or red and yellow paint scheme
not a rule of thumb but milder duration = quicker spool-up time. Rod doesn't want a race engine, he wants a road engine.
I had always assumed though that he would use cams with similar duration to standard but a lot more lift

ian told me about the yanks using them for drag racing and seeing over 1000bhp , but he also said that all the water ways were welded up , run on drag meth fuel , and fully stripped down and rebuilt after every run ,which makes it worst the quicker you are
iam hoping to get a genuine 650bhp or as close to as possible with bigger head bolts , new inlet manifold , extra 4 injectors , new exhaust mainifold , dry sump , and new exhaust cam and a little more boost.
we only stopped as the 4 injectors ran out of juice , but the engine was still making good bhp gains , @ 29 psi it made 484bhp and with 30 psi it made 522.5 bhp and with good air temps so i hope the new spec with a bit more boost will see the figure i would be happy with , heres the dyno results and if hes gonna bragg that hes got 700bhp then why not show the results , and on standard cams i would say never , to build my engine at the last spec (522bhp) would cost around the Ł10,000 mark , with the new parts your looking at another Ł4000 on top of that.

Only thing with a big BHP build, if you are going to spend big bucks on making the numbers, doesn't it make sense to spend a few more bucks making sure it works more than once Bit of a waste of money otherwise.

A rolling works by measuring torque at the drum.
Then the RPM of the engine is used to translate between that figure and torque at the engine by taking the gearing out of the equation.
If they didnt have an RPM signal from the engine, they could still plot power, based on the torque and rpm of the drum, but they couldnt plot engine torque or engine power versus engine rpm
So it sounds perfectly reasonable to me that you could end up in that situation

I agree
600-650hp is operating without a major transformation ...
800 but it is a serious work ....

hi matey , same engine but will have to be split to put bigger studs in , iam using standard crank , then all the rest of the bits are billy bolt ons , sump , injectors , inlets , cam , etc , the only mods are to the inlet to make some fuel rail mounts for the second rail and maybe to the throttle body bracket.

Looking forward to see this then mate.

Ah man..the good ol days. The picture you see of that mad Zetec conversion over the front wheels is a really good friend of mine. His name is Shaun Carlson from Nuforms. He spent pretty much an open budget with M-Sport & Mountune back in the day then and to be honest back then we shared alot of development info together along with the likes of Esslinger and certain other colabrotive people. It needs to be known that the thing that most fail to realise is that Shaun's cylinder head wasnt anything near a standard Zetec head. It was a custom casted head made by another American company. When I met Shaun he showed be the head and to say that it is anywhere near a strandard zetec head is a joke! The car was a FWD Focus that seriously shifted however was geared only for 1/4 mile only hence I didnt buy the gearboxes that he was almost giving away to me.
700hp is totally achievable nower days. Questions are, does the tuner have the experience on the Zetec engine to do what is needed to be done to achieve the goods, will it be a 'good' 700hp engine and also how long will it last for?
In the next couple of days I will be posting pictures of parts of my new proposed Zetec engine that was spec'ed to be 700bhp+.....I have now decided to ditch the project as I am into very fast motorbikes now hence decided to sell all of the components I have for my proposed 700bhp Zetec build. Keep your eyes peeled for anyone who is seriously interested.
Note to mods : this is not a for sale post as I have not disclosed what parts I have for sale here however will be doing so in the correct section soon.
Thanks,
Sunny.
