Default 2wd manifold and GT30/35's

if you are fitting a gt30 or 35 ,(external gate) do you need a spacer in the middle of the 2wd exhaust manifold and trouser section? Is this just for the 2wd head clearence for the turbo damper lugs,or 4x4 head as well?
