Default salvage. Tips on buying?

I'm looking to buy a salvage ford again. Something newish, KA or mk6 Fiesta.
What's the best route to go down? Fleabay seems full of dreamers whom expect almost trade rates for damaged cars.

Has anyone bought direct off insurance companies rather than going to a salvage auction.
Does anyone know of cheap salvage yards. Or is salvage auctions better/easier?
I'm up north if thats helps.

What should i expect to pay?

I know i'm been vague. Thanks in advance if you reply

By the time you've bought it and put it all right you might as well have bought a straight one, and you've still got a car that's on the hit list. If you really must have one then get one that's been done really well already and save yourself the bother and money.

Some of the fiesta's and KA's ive been looking at are over priced IMO.

Both models between the ages of 1997-2000 range from 800 to 1500. & most of them haven't been perfect (rust showing etc)

Maybe i want too much...as usual

buy from salvage dealer's or auction's,but take someone who know's what there looking at as there are a lot of people who will pull a salvage car and make it look better than it is......if your up north there must be loads of salvage dealer's near you......vic check is only to check that the cars chassis number and engine number is correct and you have not rung it.....it is not to check repairs.

my mate bought a few from a salvage auction, some cheap cheap cars, but the easy bolt on panel stuff got rapidly bidded on.

He got stung as he bought a rear ended motor, did all the bodywork, drove it down the road and it went like a crab lol

Wasn't out to far but enough to mean you couldn't drive it.
