Howdy all

I thought i'd do something nice for my GF this year as its gonna be a special day for us on the 4th August as it was the day we let all our friends know that we were officially a couple.

I've been working on a Instrumental for her. I just got the Middle Section Melody and Solo done and would appreciate if you people would have a listen and give me some feedback.

Its not complete, its only Drums and 2 guitars. I still have to add the Bass. The way it starts off in the MP3 is not the way its going to start but i'm still working on the Intro.

So please take 5 minutes to listen and give me some feedback.

She likes most the Instrumentals from Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. So i know she will like it.

The Slide notes before the melody and end Solo is my Petrucci attempt and the main Melody is my Satriani attempt

I'm hardly Simon Cowell, but is it not a little drawn out and repetitive in places?? I'm not too familiar with Pink Floyd though, so if that composition sounds similar and she likes them... then I'm sure you'll be alright.

Its the gesture rather than the finished product which will be appreciated more with this type of thing IMO.

It is. Like you've said its not the finished product. I'm just getting the idea together of what emotion to capture. Still alot to work on but once done should be cool.

As much as i am a Pink Floyd fan i'm a Bigger Dream Theater/John Petrucci Fan.

She does like her Instrumentals. She refers to it as 'Music to make Love to'. She likes musicians like Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. So it should be a winner.

I think its pretty much there mate.

Needs a good strong bass line to help carry the lead guitar and solo, maybe something similar to the melody but not so it copies it exactly.

Ive done a few songs for my mrs.

Had a live band at our wedding, I played acoustic and sung

Pink floyd - wish you were here and Pearl Jam- black with the band

and did incubus - Miss you as a solo, had pretty much 200 people in tears.

Im sure she will love it mate

I thought vocals, but couldnt imagine how theyd fit in, as it sounds pretty much designed as an instrumental piece.

Think youd have to slow up the verses to pull off any vocals ?

I'm cutting out the first intro to that part as i think it would sound alot better if that part appears just once in the song. This way it won't sound as repetitive

Bass line needs to be worked as its really simple to just play simple notes. I think it needs a little groove.

Like i said she likes her Instrumentals

Don't sing anymore + i'm crap at lyrics. I can express more through playing a instrument than actual words.

Would have to remove the Guitar Melody line and do the vocals over the backing guitar. Could work

I don't know shit about music but it reminded me of a 80's film, where a couples passion and lust takes over and their getting down and dirty, and thats the sound over if you know what i mean. Maybe it will work on the missus you never know.
