Anyone know or from Brisbane?
I am currently living in NZ, but fucking hate the place . I know Sydney well and know the suburbs I would stay in etc but I have been offered a few jobs in Brisbane that seem great but as I have only ever spent one day there I know nothing about it.
I am planning a week there to view but anyone know it well and where is good??

I live on Sunny Coast but know Brisbane reasonably well.
Plenty of upmarket suburbs-Hamilton,Ascot,Auchenflower,Holland Park West etc etc
It's a modern city with a realtively young population. Lots of good night life, sporting events, concerts etc plus you're only an hour away from the Gold Coast or Sunny Coast.
All in all a pretty good city to live I believe.

Being honest I LOVE Sydney and that would be my first choice but housing costs are bloody stupid. I do like the beaches though and Brisbane doesn't really have, as you say the Coasts are nearby.

Very pretty city, has a relaxed feel, catch the ferry on the river around, young population and of course the weather. There's quite a few prestige car yards (Audi / BMW / Merc) in Fortitude Valley (a city suburb) so it might be the spot. I work for a large company that is based in Brisbane and have spent many months up there working (particully eight years ago and last year).
One minor thing, Brisbane has developed a tragic traffic problem especially between the airport, the city and the roads heading through north and south. This is because it has developed very quickly (in the last eight years) and the infastructure wasn't upgraded at the same time. Their working on it now though and there is heaps of construction going on. Would be nothing compared to Sydney though.
Minor gripe really ... its a lovely spot.
Easy access to some beautiful places ... north and south coasts and the hinterland towards NSW.
Would be a good spot to bring up a young family.
But ... Melbournes better though.
My two cents.

My only worry about Melbourne is the rain fall/temps. I really want a very nice climate. Never say never though and I haven't been to Melbourne yet.
What is the Sunny Coast like? I am a mechanic and would prefer to stay in Audi/VW/Porsche side of things that is why I was thinking Brisbane.

Depends what you want really.
Want to live in a special 'proper' city (and not be bored) ... Melbourne. (Dont let talk about melbournes weather deter you ... we have what are known as seasons! Its only people who don't live in Melbourne that complain )
Want to live on a 'swimmable' coast most of the year ... then the coast north or south of Brisbane. Both are lovely. Personally ... pick north though.

Nothing in particular(well the odd thing) but basically I am not happy here. LOVE Aussie but just not enjoying the lifestyle here, my brother in law also from Scotland loves the place though and never wants to leave so it's not that it's a terrible place it's just not for me.

Well today we had a high of 10 degrees and it will probably be down to 2 or 3 tonight. Fucking great!!!
The buying property is the big draw, looks much better in QLD. Get a lot more for the money.

qld is a good starting point in OZ, noosa is just down the road 30 mins away i'm off to frazer island this weekend i can't fault it here, property is cheap as chips i just had a four bed place built on four acres for not a lot of money. and the best bit is the weather mild winters and it's not to hot in the summer. there seems plenty of work wages arent bad i love it and can't see me going anywhere else for a while

Well got back at the weekend, stayed in Mooloolaba and done loads of driving about.
Noosa
Maroochydore
Buderim
Caloundra
Tewantin and over to Noosa North Shore
etc
etc
What can I say......... I FUCKING LOVE IT!! Nothing at all could I fault, weather was 25-30 every day, people are SO friendly compared to Kiwis I have to say and even the missus commented on that. Every corner you turn is another nice beach, house prices seem ok and fair.
So next step is to find a Workshop(prefer Audi/VW) in Sunshine Coast or nearby to take me on. Hopefully be there early next year and get out of this hell hole.
So if any Aussies have contact in the industry let me know.

I still have a special place in my heart for Sydney but the house pricing is silly really, maybe retire there in a few years.
