Default relevance of previous experience/qualifications!

Now im sure this will effect a lot of people in the current climate with loads of people being made redundant from high skilled jobs and being dropped to the bottom of the ladder in dead end jobs to make ends meet.

So after how long does your previous skills and experience count for fuck all when it comes to getting new jobs???

I can forsee a lot of people who if previous experience counts for nothing, then essentially not being able to get work in thier old trade without working back up from the bottom again?

For example i have 10 years management experience etc yet how long doing a dead end security job will "write off" all the previous experience as worthless??

So how generally long is it before your history becomes irrelevant and you have to start at the bottom again???

By the end of the recession i can easily see there being hundreds of thousands of people in such a predicament.

any ideas how it works in reality???

i'm stuck in that postion now my friend, except I been unemployed since feb this year, and i have applied for a good 100+ of jobs and havent even been offered an interview by one. I have 5years experience working for car garages, and 2 years office administration. But I cant even get a basic job via b&q or southern electric.

Any experiance has to have relevance when applying for a job.

Have you thought about studying for a management type qualification to support your management experiance?

Im talking about post recession when theres more work out there.... Obviously now people find it hard to get a low level job let alone anything higher up the chain, but once the recession is over and the economy recovers, there will be expansion of business and hence jobs.

I have management qualifications from my time in the navy, accredited by ILM and C&G.

Thats what im asking. but when does time alone ruin skills?? eg does 1 year in a dead end job "delete" a years worth of experience in a high end job?? eg if i applied for a security management job (not low level guarding shite ) could i still reasonably claim i have security management experience (which i have) or would they view the fact ive been in a dead end job for a while to have "undone" all that experience??

or in these recession hit times will employers take into consideration the fact its likely someone has been stuck in low level jobs.

So when does time mean that experience looses relevance for such skills?? Obviously we arent talking about super time critical skills like IT industry.
