I've said this for years.

This is why for example, Prodrive will recommend an ITG panel filter on the scooby, as it doesn't destroy the AFM like a K&N will do..............

may as well not bother with one at all if you've got a hks, that's shocking filtration! what's fitted to yours then?

The worst one was the HKS foam filter which is probably the most popular

Basicly its not the make, its the TYPE of filter regardless of make.

Foam ones are just plain shit, may as well just scoop up mud n thow it into the engine My car came with HKS filters. Thats why i sold mine to IMA

Metal ones are pretty bollocks too.

But cotton ones are good

I got 2x massive "GrpA" Cossie K+N cones with alloy trumpets to go on mine now, for just 1 turbo, lol.

I once read a filter test by Dave Vizard in which he tested all the popular manufacturers filters and filter types, from paper to foam.

The K&N filter came out tops. There wasn't a huge amount in it between the top filters in peak flow but he also tested the filters again after 1000 road miles and the K&N was out flowing its rivals by a huge margin! Seems as the K&N gets dirty its performance doesn't drop off nearly as much as its competitors!

I would go for K&N every time. Very easy to wash and re-oil.

I've seen the effect of the HKS ones on a Skyline - it needed two new turbos .

on k&n and others, it's not the filter itself that picks out the dirt, it's the oil. that's why you should clean them and re-oil them properly.
