Cossie Vs M5!
#81
Some people think that beating an M5 in a straight line (lets all be honest, it isnt even hard is it) means that their car is better. Doesnt work like that.

Folks,
Martin ISN,T saying cossies are shit FFS...
He,s just putting a point accross that HE and yes HIS opnion thinks that the M5 is a better built car out of the box etc and i,d agree 100%.
What you need to remember here is, this baby was a 60k car ffs and for the price they,re going for now it,s performance bargain of the century.
I,m 43 soon and i,ve probably had more performance cars than most on here (not head sweeling either) before anyone says it... 480bhp Evo,Tommi Mak, Spec C, 22b, Type RA, countless E30 M3`s etc, BUT i always have had a soft spot for the Cosworth, imo they,re a great car, they feel old, smell, burn oil etc.. but that,s part of the ownership for...

Thankyou Pete.
Although its not an opinion, its a FACT!!!
ps a stage 3 cossie would 'feel' as quick as an M5, but the M5 does pick up speed rather well

I did write a long reply out giving reasons why cossies are better than M5's but lost it and i cant be arsed to write it all again. At the end of the day, each car has its advantages and disadvantages over the other, and if the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, then thats how we decide what car we want. Simple really. Doesnt make one car better than the other for everyone, only in your own opinion.
To summarise, its funny how this topic makes its rounds every few weeks, and the same nonsense gets said.
Why cant bmw owners (M5 ones in particular for some strange reason), accept the fact that its purely down to opinions. Really strange. If everyone thought the M5 was better, we'd all have them! But in my opinion (and many others), their not! So we dont want one. Why do M5 owners feel the need to try and change someones opinion about a car!?!?! You cant, thats why its an opinon.
Anyway, ive done with this thread now as it somehow emerges every now and then and its really getting boring.

Im not saying it wasn't mate. I was just saying how its strange that M5 owners feel the need to try and change someones opinion about a car, reeling off things why 'they' feel their car is 'better'. Its really strange how it just seems to be M5 owners that seem to do this.

Same old shit, different site.
I had same on Vaux site when got an M3.
God forbid a car that costs twice as much as another and is far newer is better.
No shame in that, just a fact.
I went to view a standard sapphire whilst I had the M3, wanted one since I was 10 or so, still do.
Was worried it would ruin the boyhood dream, and it did, was terrible in comparison.
This is a good read: http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...3/pageNumber=1
Basically saying in 2000 the M5 was the best car for any money.

They are both cool cars that go like feck-and thats good enough for most people!
I think the Cos is a great car for its age and its a great experience owning one-even a saff gets alot of attention.
They are both unique in different ways,I love the Cossie for its turbo power and rawness but I love the BM for its handling and luxury.
Wouldnt want to give either up tbh.

ive been lucky enought to own virtually every good performance car in the sub 12k bracket at mo;
my top 5
1-bmw m5 e39
2-mercedes c32 amg
3-audi rs6
4-impreza sti v8
5-e46 m3 smg
ive had countless cossies of various power-numerous evo's,skyline gtr r33,various imprezas etc etc-they are all great cars in their own right and once you have owned a big power 2wd cossie you will always smile every time you talk about it.........very quick, but in my opinion-not in the same league as the e39 m5 as an all round fast car

i dont understand the comparison with these 2
both great cars
bmw m5 is 60k new refined, huge torque bullet proof and a fairly new car,can be had for 8k now
total baragain great car
comparing to a cossie from the 80s is stupid, sure a 500bhp cossie will destroy the 2 ton m5,but as standard of course not,so where do you draw the line?
2 total diffrent cars but id love both

Thankfully I genuinely hate cars so I am immune to such diseases and thus can only speak the truth. LOL.

You possibly don't use many car forums then mate as if you did you would know that all car owners do this the world over. We could go to a Fiat punto forum and they would argue their cars are better than cossies and M5's. Its a simple sign of the passion petrol heads have for their chosen steed.

Interesting to hear you say that Stu. Have you slowly had your enthusiasm for cars erroded because of the years working on them? Most people i find in "the trade" eventually get that way.
#113
My enthusiasm for the job I do every day is largely the same as it always was. I love doing what I do and I still enjoy the end result, but on a personal level such as at car shows etc I have no interest in the cars themselves as its just work to me. When my mates are crowding round some big power Lancer I start to feel a great cloud of boredom descending on me within seconds. I guess its the same for every tradesman, the job can only keep you excited for so long and then it just descends into professional pride keeping you doing what you do well I guess.
Sadly, this last 2 years the RS Scene has descended a few levels in my opinion as its now extremely rare we get a customer in who can actually afford to fix the car properly and more and more are asking for credit for simple items such as a sensor kit or an actuator. A sad but true fact. That scenario really hammers your enthusiasm as well unfortunately.

Price of petrol, price of servicing, price of insurance...
Look at the XJR, Ł53k new and compared to the M5, worth half as much as the M5; so in that respect has kept it's value quite well you could argue.
