Default no power on 2wd saff.. help pls..

hello.... whilst fitting a stereo to the car i accidentally shorted 2 wires which has now stopped everything working on the car no lights ignition or anything at all.. ive checked all the fuses in the box and the few under the dash that i could find and all these seem fine.. checked for power to the ignition switch and have no power to any of the terminals...
its looking like ive burned a fuse out to me but does anyone have any other ideas as im totally lost now... the wires only shorted for a split second so shouldnt have really melted through anything....
hope someone can help before i have to rip the whole dash out......

thanks.. jay

They're not "shitty little wires" - they have performed exactly as they were supposed to do - ie they melt breaking the short circuit before the car catches fire.

I'm not trying to sound arsey about it, but they are there for a reason. If you are going to replace the fusible links with normal wire, think about buying some large fuse holders to replace the fusible links in a like-for-like manner.

If you like, I've got an old cossie car loom, and I'll cut it apart to determine a suitable fuse rating. Let me know if you want me to do that.
