Hope this gets fixed, i don't see why not if you have the resources of a mate with a bodyshop, a total pisser though!
But i expect with the previous condition of the car that it's already had a bare shell respray so you'll be a dab hand at that 2nd time around!
Did you ever find out what the problem was, i noticed the regulator was missing off the end of the rail in one of the pics, was it a fuel leak???
Anyway, hope you get it sorted out without too much hassle from the Insurance. I carry two fire extinguishers in my cossie as i know people that have had their cars go up in smoke, it may not be enough but it'd certainly fend off the flames until some help arrived, shame you weren't blessed with a well equipped passer by to minimise the damage.

just a bit of an update(bit late i know) but the car got 95% finished for the rs owners day in september after alot of work, just the wiring to sort. and it is now in february's retroford which was out last thursday. they did a mega photo shoot and i'm buzzin about it still, if anyone wants to read the story and see pictures of how it is now they can get a copy. i put the car away after the show and had a bit of a break, but hopefully the wiring will be complete within the next couple of weeks and that will just about complete her ready for a mega summer. can't wait to her her live again there will be a few tears shed. thanks again for all the comments on here which is why i decided to to use this thread.

not really, we think that the problem was the O ring at the end of the fuel rail where the pressure regulator is that let go and dripped fuel onto the dizzy. a friend of mine had the same thing happen to his mk2 while on a track day only difference is his caught fire at the side of a marshall post and it was put out before it got hold. and have brought an aeromotive style regulator that bolts onto the inner wing. having said all that i think all my sense's will be on full alert and maybe a few hand held fire extinguishers to go along side the plumbed in one just to be on the safe side.

It Wasnt Me!
Amazing! I've never saw this thread up until just now and I'm stuck for words! What a credit to your hard work and persistance
Pics look great, liking the fire in the background lol !
All the best with it for the summer, you deserve to enjoy it!
P.s. There should be a thread titled "Cosworth owners Check your fuel pressure regulators!!"
The amount of cossies i've heard of/know about that have went up in flames because of them
