General Car Related Discussion. To discuss anything that is related to cars and automotive technology that doesnt naturally fit into another forum catagory.
i used to see 94 c with an 88 stat under very hard conditions and fan would be in alot at high speed, now i run an 82 with 2 small holes driled in it to and sits at 77 ish cruising but never goes above 90 no matter how hard i push it.
I use an 82 deg item from Stu- I dont see a reason for it to run any hotter, dont use a switch either- why do you need to if the fan switch works, and drilling the thermostant makes the water pass through to the rad lowering the water temps and taking the car even longer to run at 70 degrees- dont do that either.
In short contact Stu and ask what he recommends if he sets it up, or Karl if you are getting him to set it up etc etc
but i am not totaly clear for my choice because some have 82 and some 88
IMO, highter is better. 88° or more if possible.
Thermodynamic rule say : highter temperature engine is, better output you obtain.
It is the raison because engine with air cooling have better output than engine with water cooling.

4X4 stats are notoriously un-reliable, the idea of drilling a hole in the stat is in case the stat decides to jam shut which they often do, stat jams=overheating and fuckeroonied head gasket
whenever I fit a stat in my car I drill a small 3mm hole in it, if it jams shut the hole will allow nuff water through so the car don't get too hot thus saving you the time and cost of head gasket replacement
