i personally would cut along the top of the skirting board with a very sharp stanly knife right through ....then prise away from wall... at least it will only take the plaster its stuck to that way ... goodluck but i can forsee a trip to get some filler etc lol

no nails is great until you want to remove something.

eagles suggestion is the best for damage limitation, take it easy and only the plaster below the skirting should come off and not half the wall.

you could go with a higher skirting board which may cover any resulting damage ,stick it to the wall with loads of liquid nails
and hey presto ,till next time when you will have to get a higher skirting board ,you know how it goes lol

well
the god are smiling on me today i think
i started to take up th eskirting behind the units (so wouldnt be seen if the worsed happened)
method was..
stanley along top of skirting, chisel down the back and then yank the bejesus out of it
seemed to work well behind the units
so i cracked on with entire living room
pulled up around 70ft of skirting and pulled a inch square patch off behind the units
was proper lucky i think
im off out now to get me some lottery tickets
