My g/f has a 2003 cooper s for nearly 2 years now. We had the gearbox replaced about 12 months ago under warranty as they apparently have a known weakness back then. I have done a motorkhana in the car and it handled ok but suffered with cooling. Car is excellent on the highway with economy and enough grunt around town. Am replacing the brake pads this weekend. Servicing is the only thing that I dislike through BMW.
What performance mods are available for these, bolt on stuff etc? Am not sure what is available over here so shipping from the UK might be the best bet.
I took the new turbo charged one out while hers was having the 60000km service 2 months ago. Was quite impressed and it is leagues above the older one.

We've had our cooper s for just over a month and it's an absolute hoot. I'd describe it as nippy but not quick. When I got back in the CSL I remembered what quick was....

0-60 on a standard mk1 bmw cooper S is qouted at just under 7 seconds. id be surprised if a 2.0l mk3 fiesta was faster. Bear in mind a rs1800 got to 60 in 8.1 secs and that was 130bhp so i reckon your 3 fat knackers in the back more than destroys any "lightweight" advantage you may have had.
Cooper S is a cracking fun car

I remember an encounter I had with a mini cooper s a few years ago. I was coming back from an evening out with the worse half, who was a little worse for wear when the cooper s pull alongside us at the lights with his token blonde bimbo in the passenger seat and she's looking through the window as he is reving his car up.
Normally the worse half would have told me off for even contemplating competing, but she seen the other girl looking and female feral instinct took over!
We basically mauled the Cooper badly and we slowed down to let them catchup and got caught at the next set of lights, did the blonde bimbo look round this time!
My friends sister has one and to be fair its quite a nice motor.

The supercharged Cooper S can be made to go pretty quickly without spending much cash.
I'm taking mine to the Pod on Friday to see what time it will get with @ 260hp.

Not according to GTT...
http://www.gtt.uk.com/packages.asp
Seems like you need quite a bit of work to get up to mid 200s. Went out in my mates Mini the other night he has the 230+ GTT package. Deceptively quick imo as it doesn't have the piledriver boost of a turbo but watching the speedo it just climbs and climbs. Mid-range is also very very good!

not sure what you mean:
GTT260+ ecu remap + optimised bypass valve + high temp iridium sparkplugs + GTT supercharger pulley + shorter 'stickier' drive belt + GTT twin bearing idler pulley + GTT 'cold ram' induction kit + GTT large top mount 16 tube intercooler c/w GTT diffuser +GTT exhaust re- route pipe + GTT camshaft + GTT adjustable cam timing sprocket + GTT 63mm throttle body + GTT stage 2 cylinder head + GTT lightweight 2 piece sports manifold & cat + Larger Fuel Injectors
I didnt detail the supporting parts but other than that its the same.
Getting to 210 is very easy - but its the law of dimishing returns...

I just meant that because I knew roughly what the GTT packages are that your description was a bit basic because I was expecting you to mention stuff like the cooler an injectors but never mind. Apparently GTT themselves have a 275+ package on their mini but it is right on its limits at that power.

Arr I see what you mean - wasn't quoting an exact spec (I've done enough of those this week lol).
I've not seen 275 from the supercharger - it doesnt flow enough air and the bigger Eaton blows don't fit and dont drive the water pump.
Their turbo conversion is about 300 but massivly expensive.

My girlfriend has got a 55 plate Cooper S Checkmate Edition - it's got a lot of extras added onto it and is a cracking car - especially in the times I've driven it. The effect of the standard LSD is certainly noticable.
Totally hammers my coupe in the corners, but starts to lose out once higher speeds come into play.
It's got the stigma of a girls car, but if you don't see through that, you're missing out on one of the most fun cars out there. Well built too, in comparison to it's competitors.
