T4 v T38
#242
Hi Ian,
Yep, I'm still at it........
Seems to be going on forever. Head is off and ready to go to Karls for porting, and fitting some of his cams, turbo will be ready for collection in a week, really should pull out the bottom end while I'm at it, just to give it the once over....... But I know if I do that i'll end up doing even more. Anyway, I'm not planning for huge bhp (Relatively Speaking By Todays Standards) but I do want a genuine 420bhp + with good torque and low lag.
Just want it to pull 420bhp on anyones rollers, without fail.......

I wouldn't bother pulling it apart if I were you, it's only done 40k aint it? And most of those were running std power IIRC. Should be quite an impressive machine once finished mate, you'll have to take me out for a blag in it .............forgotten what being in a fast car is like now

How's the turbo compressor map look to you stu ????
Bearing in mind the rest of the engine spec..... Standard Comp, Karls head and cams, etc

At that price you could regard the T4 as a "consumable" and chaange it 3 or 4 times a year (say when you do an oil change, put a new turbo on as well), then sell the one you've just taken off on E-bay....um Ł 198.00 reserve

Cue one of Mike's stroppy replies:
"Doug, If you think those Genuine Garrett turbos from the USA are anywhere near as good as the 1986 designed RS500 truck turbo's that you can get in the UK for Ł 1,280.00 then you are even more stupid then you look"

No Doug, I'm just saying that they are chalk and cheese, so the comparison is useless. You might as well be comparing a T3 to a T3/4 in this country .
The prices are really impressive until you add carriage and import duty and then you get a more comparable figure (for disimilar turbos ) .

the t38 is a good turbo if you have serious head work done it spinns up earlier than a t4 and pulls well to the end i had the 3rd t38 made but sold it as my planns changed back then nobody would buy 1 but now ther's a few of them about althoughy they do serge their tits off on standard engines

OK mike, I will look in to this in detail and get a price for the "real thing" from the USA.....
This will be much more intresting than trying to find a T4 compressor map (especially as there are sooo many types of T4).
HELP Please:
Anybody got a GENUINE RS500 T4 ???
Pease look at the Garrett tag fixed to it (usually green & rivited on) and post up the part number as shown.
