fookin contempory heavy metal my arse!!! 11 year old kids school music lesson sound better everyone I speak to about dreamtheatre say, yeah but they're technically brilliant....... they still sound shit
As for Slayer, yeah they kick ass, but have you heard Ten Masked Men and there cover of "Baby one more time" - Britney Spears and "Push it" - Salt 'n' Pepper far more entertaining

IMO DT are great, only just getting into them so all new to me, but always been a fan of progressive "no rules" music which is where a lot of metal fails as it feels it has to stay within limits, where as prog rock bands like Rush don't worry as to the limitations of time signatures....

Kerrang TV on NTL is good (Chnl 819) but Scuzz (934) plays some cool stuff also. Quite like having it on loud when I'm tinkering with car bits on a Sunday morning.

Really not a fan of Slipknot and especially all that they stand for, which is the demise of underground metal by force feeding it to the kids and the media thus making it trendy and "cool"..... Most of these kids who listen to Slipknot have never even heard Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne (other than his TV show - which makes a mockery of a man so great and who achieved so much and reshaped heavy metal as a genre), Metallica, Rush, Rainbow (not the TV show ), Led Zepplin, Judas Priest etc - the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock... They know nothing and it is in their ignorance that bands like Slipknot thrive and are only in it to make copious ammounts of money from impressionable youngsters who don't know any better

It's music and is a form of expression and entertainment. I listen to music because I like it not because of any political reasons. I certainly don't listen to stuff because the media and the majority say I should. I'm a free thinker and I will listen to stuff for me and not for anybody else.

Take Metallica - probably the highest grossing metal band of all time - they were playing arena's and stadiums before MTV even heard about them!
But they made it on their own terms: their rules, their way. They didn't do music video's, they didn't get radio airplay, they didn't get worldwide mainstream press publicity, it was all through word of mouth from the fans and tape traders and their legendary reputation of relentless touring : a year, two years, hell even three years non stop out on the road.... No fucking around this is/was metal at it's finest....
