Honest opinion please
ok after sorting out what i need for the xr3i cabby, ive been approached by a guy in aberdeen and asked if i would want to straight swap for his sierra 1.8 4door.
he's currently wanted one for his missus for months but never came accross one original condition etc (mines is still 100% all original from factory) and is willing to do a deal with me on his sierra.
his car is completely mint, underneath hasnt got a spot of surface rust or corrosion on it, and topside as well its like a brand new shell near enough (it could pass as one!)
inside he's got leather interior (not cosworth just retrimmed stuff) and outside a set of 17" Kahn alloys and a sierra cos spoiler.
honest opinions please, do you reckon a standard XR3i convertible is worth swapping for a mint sierra as a project car? it works out the sierra is obviously cheaper to run etc and insure, but is it worth doing so? i wouldnt mind touching it up a little bit, maybe adding cosworth bumpers etc and bonnet, but not making it a proper "cossie rep" as if im going to do that i'd be as well buying a proper one.
opinions as honest as they come please as im split 50/50 and looking for advice on the matter.

i would say swap, your car may be standard but its got some nasty looking rust issues which arent going to get any better without attention soon, that good old east coast air!if the sierra is tidy its prob worth between 500 and 900 bucks, they are getting to be a rare sight these days so a nice 1 with some cos bits will get attention.you will miss the cab in summer though!

forgot to add it WILL be coming with the 17" kahn alloys on it as well as the leather interior.....
ive got the cab booked in to a mates bodyshop for to get painted diamond white and its due in next week, so im hoping i can just use the cash to spray the sierra diamond white instead as ive always wanted a white sierra saph cos, and if i can source the bumpers etc then i'd be super happy to get them fitted and painted too!

ok so so far everyones saying go for it
anybody got a van and trailer for the day to head from fife to aberdeen? payment in fuel and beer/food?
rear arches on the escort are still not too bad still solid tbh, but then all i reckon the sierra needs is a decent engine as the cvh thats in it isnt at its best (blowing a bit of oil out the exhaust), nothing some good old 2.0 power cant cure i reckon!

Hi,that interior looks like a 2000e interior,i would swap and spend the painting money on cos bumpers and skirts, thats mercury grey or something close which is by far a nicer and rarer colour than white.lose the fuel filler cap and the red side mouldings and that will look the part.i wouldnt paint it white unless you really want a white 1 and you are prepared to totally strip it and get the doors off and get it all white.

hi 155lee:
ive already paid for the materials from the bodyshop, so i reckon that i could probably get some of my cash back as the guys sound enough, plus i do him a lot of favours bringing work his way anyways.
ive only gave him 250 and £100 of that was for materials, so i would need to speak to him as to see what can be done with that etc.... if i could find cos bumpers i would get him just to paint them instead i reckon...
is the 2000e interior a good interior? not too clued up on sierra's always been cortina's escorts and capri's but a sierra is something ive always hankered buying!

Please don't spend your money on respraying that Sierra. Cost of respray must be more than the car is worth. Yes do the swap with the rusty Escort. But why waste money respraying a worthless 1.8 Sapphire?

just in thinking about it if the shell IS as good as he says, then there really is no point in spraying it, i suppose i could get him to keep that cash to the side and get him to take the side mouldings off and fit and spray cos bumpers for me once done??
not sure what i want to do with the Kahn alloys, might sell them as im not too sure wether i want to keep them or not!
and i wouldnt say that a possibly mint condition saph shell is "worthless" to anyone mate, regardless of engine size etc. its worth what the guy wants in cash or swap either way

Pics clearly show the Sierra is the one to have, looks better, Kahn RS-R alloys and interior look mint. And as for a convertible for the summer, you'd open it once or twice a year at best

plus the wind noises at 70mph-ish is pretty annoying, hardtops have their advantages too, and if i need to cool down theres always the windows for that!

thats pretty much what im after tbh, the looks of one without the fuel costs, repair costs etc.... i want a cossie in a couple years dont get me wrong but at the current climate of this country and the fact that valeters in my area are more popular than pubs for trying to find one, its hitting most of us pretty hard at the moment so a nice looking rep runabout would do me for now, but im not keen on calling it a rep as it goes with the "cant afford a cossie" stigma, id rather take it that the car would be taking its styling from the cosworth

think i need to post up for someone to lend me a hand collecting/delivering for this then!
at worst case if it needs a new engine in it theres another 1.8 cvh down the road from me being broken at a breakers yard so i can get another one, and i also still have my 202 block pinto engine sat in the garage not doing anything so could come in handy!

the buggers sold it underneath me!!!!!!!!!! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhh!
looks like escorts going to go ahead at the bodyshop then and have the rust cut off it, doors sorted, and then RS kitted minus bonnet then on monday! might as well do the full whack now and take the engine and box out and get the engine bay sprayed over as well!
what a fucking cock selling it under me AFTER agreeing that the deal was done!!!
