If your big then go for the Fiesta.
But I would prefer the Puma as a track car.

Same car bar the shape and engine

Renew all bushes, especially lower front arm/ARB and rear beam bushes

They dont handle on bigger wheels or too low ( more than -20mm )

Easily tuneable to 150bhp with shawspeed ss2/s4 cams, rod bolts, valve springs and a remap........standard inlet and the usual 4-2-1 manifold and exhaust.

Change oil regularly and they're pretty bombproof....especially the phase 2 ( y plate onwards as a rule but distinguished by a black rocker cover )

Anymore questions please ask.

ps, they eat coilpacks too, but a cheap and easy fix.......my road car was as much fun as you can have with your clothes on on a b road

standard parts are cheap and plentifull

Engine conversions, you can take your pick, i've seen ZT, CVH turbo, FRS but the best IMO is to tune the tits off the 1.6 in it...its an all alloy, lightweight 16v, and the ports are big enough for 200bhp as standard.....its the engine of choice in stuff like caterhams etc now because it's so light and tuneable.

A heavy engine would ruin the handling IMO and power doesnt = fun or necessarily laptimes on track.

I'd go with new bushes, solid mounted rear beam, adjustable TCA's and some -20mm Ford racing dampers with eibach springs, a lower front strut brace and mondeo 300mm brakes or cossie 4wd calipers/2wd discs and take it from there

Cheap and fun

i'd say jsut spend the Ł2k on as good a car as you can get and a full oil/fluids service and then like you say, upgrade as you go.

Lower front strut brace from OMP is only about Ł20 and is the best value handling mod i made on mine.

Replacing all the tired bushes, especially the rear beam ones will make a huge difference tho...

The puma and z-s are the same car, the only difference is the puma has a very slightly stiffer shell.....altho the z-s shell believe it or not is stiffer than other fiestas and is bespoke for that model!

they share identical running gear and the only real difference is the engine, altho both respond in the same way to the tuning!

I sold mine a while ago but i had

4-2-1 and a magnex zaust, with a piper foam panel in the standard airbox

Solid insert front lower arm bushes, FRP ARB bushes, solid insert rear beam bushes and the rest of the bushes new ford items ( to retain some ride quality )

I had -20mm eibach springs and ford racing dampers ( i think rebranded sachs? ) and the lower strut brace. I tried the upper and it did nothing, and I tried the rear turret brace but it made it too stiff and prone to 'snap' oversteer'

that was all, bar a puma gear knob ( compulsory! lol ) and some Ford Racing Sparco Seats. I absolutely loved the rev happy little bugger.

Not the fastest thing ever but on a good set of toyo's it was pretty fun on a b road and I thraped it everywhere, never let me down at all.

track would require a slight brake upgrade to hotter pads and some camber adjustment on the front and maybe a little more of a drop as just a basic start.

steer clear of phase 1's with the ally rocker cover engine, WAY TO MANY seem to let go at around 50k, ok you may get lucky but with so many going, it aint worth the risk.

Lots of people say "that's not common, mines fine" and funny enough, have seen the same people a few months later saying "my engine is making a loud knocking noise and using loads of oil"

enginewise mechanially, nothing bar a tad more crank end float.......its the same 1.6 as found in millions of fiesta/focus/fusion's around the world...........but you only hear about the failures........usually people who dont service every 10k and dont check the oil level till it's too late in my experience.......having spent 4 years or so on zsoc.com the majority of failures happend to cars that weren't sympathetically cared for IME

The suspension, I'd have some camber adj arms on there.

Also I'd sell the FRP seats for the Ł600 they're worth as well as the 3 points and get some proper buckets and harnesses in there.
