Default Anyone stick their number plates on rather than screw them on

Does anyone stick their number plates on rather than screw them on, i.e. sticky pads etc. Just wondered now secure they would be? I guess the rear one would be pretty secure, perhaps the front one less so?

the rear plate on my cossie was velcro'd on

never had an issue

not sure on the front as that would take some beating at 150mph+

Yes, I guess the rear one would be okay. I always find they bend if you screw them on and would like to see them perfectly flat.

mine are stuck on. provided you use decent tape & it is clean & dry then you won't have problems. regards the front mine has been on there for 2 years & does quite a few track days

Mine are stuck on both front and back.

Three strips of the thick double sided sticky foam ( for that job ) that they sell in Halfords, and it's only pennies really.

And believe me, I've washed the car many times, powerwashed it, polished and they're still rock solid.

Oh, and the ST's been well over a ton with them stuck as well. More chance the wipers lifting than the plates coming off

I normally stick them all on, on my bm the front was still on after a 160 mph run down an autobahn on holiday.
I've now riveted my pressed metal plates on as the sticky pads didn't work too well on them.

Is your front one supported across the whole size of the plate Ian? I just wondered if it was only partially supported by the panel the wind would get at it and eventually force it off.

i stuck a front plate on my old golf, proper number plate sticky pads from Halfords, it comes with a cleaning cloth aswell to help remove any shit from the surface/prepare it for sticking, so once you cleaned it and then used the tiny cleaning cloth you can put the pads on and stick it on.

Obviously want to pick a dry day and dont drive it straight after, think it says 2-4 hours?

It was rock solid when i checked it, saw loads of rain and never come off

the thick pads are deff what you need they allow any curves and also if there are any recesses or bolts fixed to the car

I had a sticky on plates on one of my cars.....went for a car holiday through France in the middle of August one year........the rear plate decided to pack its bag & leave home on the French motorways and twat a lorry behind me....and the front one fell off when I was parked up in the French services - a kind old French dear put the plate on my windscreen so I realised! LOL!

I think the heat melted the stickyness of the pads & so they failed....miserably! LOL!

the rear on my RST was stuck on, and the fucker stayed put for a couple of years general driving, and then my mate drove into the back of me at about 30mph, and the thing still wouldnt fall off! it then even survived whilst the back panel was beaten back to shape with various lump hammers and lumps of wood!

eventually removed it with a pry bar lol

although saying that, my dad stuck his on his vectra with the exact same 6mm pads from halfords, and didnt even survive in place for an hour before they were on the driveway

Yup, I used the halfords pads for my front plate. I tried to get it off the other day, thought the bumper was gonna come off the car with it

I always use the sticky pads from Halfords. They are absolutely solid - infact the only problem is getting them off. They actually took some of the paint off the bumper of my Impreza when I was changing back to the original plates.

I've always used stickies too and they are BLOODY sticky!

I had them on my rst and 1 night was heading to meet Dumped in Glasgow before a trip to brunters. I stopped to take RW at the last min and we didnt have long at all to get to glasgow so we stopped to take off the rear plate to go for it. 2 of us yanking at it and could not budge it. We obviously had to make sure and not fuck the paint etc so im sure we couldve budged it but only just

Industrial strength velcro

Retail version: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...langId_-1#dtab

Shouldn't come off on the front at speed as the wind will be pushing it on firmer if anything?

Did you not read any of the above?

The sticky number plate pads will do the job for half the price of that stuff

I had two small metal mounts that screwed into the bumper on my Saph. I then used a couple of sticky pads to stick the plate to the metal mount.

They outlasted the engine at Brunters so they can't be too bad

Did you assume I bought it?

Can't get cheaper than getting it from work for nowt like I did.

And you can take it off and on without having to use new stuff everytime.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but I use sticky pads that Halford's sell. Never had a problem of my number plates falling off and trying to remove them for any reason takes a long time to remove the sticky stuff
