Depends, comminuted(bone comes through skin) fractures tend to take longer.
But as said 5 months should be back to pretty normal, just don't twist your body on the ball of you foot, this is a big no no!!
I did my left tibia and fibula, 2 breaks on each, comminuted, left femur, right femur comminuted, both ankles, dislocated hips, cracked pelvis, both clavicles(collar bones), 3 ribs, sternum, right elbow 4 places comminuted, humerous, cracked skull 2 places, 2 areas of brain damage, plus stack loads more all in one go!!
I was walking even after this after 5 months in hospital on sticks, which was only 2 months after I came out of a coma.
I then had to stay in hospital for 19 months in total for infection problems, so I saw a lot of peeps come and go in the same ward.
They seemed to be around 6 weeks for tib/fib to be up on feet, but a further 3 months on crutches, much longer for femur though.

Well, I had 2 plates, 12 screws. Walked as soon as I came out of plaster, very stiff, but mostly painless. But after about 7 months got bad again, one of the plates was rubbing the cartilage in the ankle joint, badly damaged the cartilage, damage had spread through joint. Had another op to remove the plate that caused the problem, but left with bad cartilage damage, been off work since November

Still need 1 crutch to walk. I wish you better luck than I had!
