Default mapping advice please.

hello all as some of you no my fiesta is nearley on the road (nearley ,lol)

ive just finished fitting my go-tech mfi ecu and loom as i changed from megasquirt, the go-tech was mapped on a a focous rs with 750cc injectors. my injectors are 350cc and its a zetec turbo i no clearly the map is going to be compleatly unsuted to my spec but ive used it to get it up and running ive as i expected it was running lean so i richened it up a bit and got it to idal and my afr's are between 14-15 and my rpm is 900 but it just sounds rough

should i try opning the throttle a bit more and leaning it off or shutting it a bit ect im a bit lost now lol

i have never maped a car befor but im all ways looking into it. so i thort the best way was to have a go

Sounds about right, although if its low comp you might want a couple of more degrees, have you checked with a timing light that its actually getting that amount?

What CR are you clarkey?

10-12 tends to work well in the 8-9 : 1 region IME, if you are low comp though you might want a few more degrees than that.

Yeah I would try increasing it a few degrees then mate.

Try 14, see if it sounds happier, you wont kill it at idle even if you do get it wrong.

you may find that it raises the idle slightly as a result too, even on the same side amount of airflow.

ive been told i can run and engine at idal lean enouth till it cuts out with out damaging it. not that im going to try of corse so its going to be a case of fiddling with the idal screw and ignition till i get it right lol

Clarke - Ill pop over later if your doing it today?

BTW, your engine WONT be as low 7.5 from memory if your using LET pistons.

Its not exactly rocket science, you only essentially have those 3 things you can control, so if you cant get that bit right, at least you will have learned that mapping isnt for you

the only way im going to learn tho is but having ago wud you not agree? probaly should use a cheeper engine tho but im only looking at light throttle loads atm the positive boost side of things ill leave to some one else i no

PMSL @ not having a clue what your CR is, these things should be measured not guess at

Fingers crossed this doesnt end up for you how it deserves to

And yes I agree totally, get stuck in and have a go is the best way to learn

when mapping try and find a pattern, map the bottom line first, so no boost just foot on the throttle and hold it at different mapping points,

when you have the first mapping point perfect, look at the next one, it is going to need more fuel obviously so give it some more, then take the engine revs to the next point and adjust fuelling untill its correct

now you can see the jump between them two points, its going to be similar all the way along so add the differece on top of the next point (for a rough estimate), just keep working your way along untill you have all the off boost point nice.

mapping in car is difficult, its much easier on a dyno as you can hold the revs and boost at any point for however long you need, but its not the cheapest way unfortunately !

Don't know anything about go-tec but with Emerald you can scale the whole map to allow for different injectors to save starting from scratch.

Is there not a feature on go-tech to do this ?

so my electrition took it apart and we used one of the spair drivers that is normaly used when running 6 cilinders and swaped them over............

still no luck tho its the ecu its self not firing the driver any one selling a go-tech mfi pro (should have stuck with megasquirt lol)
