I see one of these every morning on my way to work, it parks in the bus stop at the beggining of a 40 zone and for some reason every fucker now drives at 20 mph ever though the road is clear enough to do 40. Twats

they have these around hillingdon borough, used to see one a lot by the width restriction at Swan Lane in Iver, i know a few people who got random tickets, one was for not letting someone else go through from the oppisite way (other drivers right of way) although in the pic they sent him, he was clearly following a big van through & wouldn't have been able to see the other side............ that along with most of the others got appealed & squashed!

i agree with the above,i see women and blokes driving like idiots with fone glued to the ear,i got caught reading a map, copper pulled me up and had a word,i put it to him would he rather me pissing about on the fone getting directions or programming a satnav,he agreed but just sed to pull over or at least keep the map out of sight, sound bloke he was.

Disagree with the above. Its another invasion of privacy.
Wear a balaclava and have a wank when going past the car/scamera. See how good they are at proving its the owner driving then.

if they use the right amount of reason with this kind of thing then it will be used properly, however the likes of an apple being eaten and because someone didnt let someone through, try telling that to the taxi drivers round here, they do it right in front of police but does anything happen........ does it hell!

sounds like another mobile government cash machine to me. Surely putting a 12ft mast on a smart car is dangerous some how, the car is the size of a shoe ffs, someone put a sail on it and watch it blow over

12% were using their phones (51 out of 406)..... so what were the other 88% doing then?? Sounds like mobiles are the smallest problem, perhaps eating, stereo use, lighting a smoke, or make-up are the biggest?

If anyone sees one twatted under a low bridge, please post, it would be divine justice for the things!

I think its a great idea if they stop people using the phone without handsfree and stop people smoking while driving.
No doubt it will get abused though like any other power the police or councils get given.

Yeah the 51/406 caught my attention too. As said already, just "another mobile government cash machine to me".

But is not looking at the car as you approach or drive past not distracting you in itself? You thinking "Oh, its one of them camera cars" as you haven't seen one, you take your eyes off the road. Therefore its a distraction!
I don't agree with how alot of people drive (Everyone should take the advance driving and bike test IMO), but this is taking the piss. The Government keep spending money on new ways to Tax the motorist, so have to Tax us more to pay for things like this!

Where does it stop though, whilst eating/drinking whilst driving is an offence(unless exempt on medical grounds) smoking is not an offence, which involves taking hand/s off wheel, would love to see this appealed, be very interesting, plod do it all the time on thier radio's, maybe we shoudl all not change gear, or drive an automatic ?
It's more deterrant value than anything else, it's not illegal to touch the stereo, or to take hand off wheel to change gear/apply e-brake etc, put window up/down, adjust heating, the list is endless, but I do agree smoking should be banned.

Using a fone, eating, dancing, talking to your mate etc etc is all fine, nothing wrong with it at all...the driving standards are what need changing....people have been using fones, talking to mates, eating and listening to the radio for yrs and yrs but now its a massive big deal....CHANGE THE DRIVING TEST AND TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO FUCKING DRIVE!!!!!

Mr Downes said the cars would only trace people who are committing an offence.
And in the video it said the same, as in, they would only zoom the camera on you if they saw you actually commiting an offence already.
So to me that means speeding D/D weaving, whatever, then they would see with the camera if it "could" be being caused by whatever else you may be doing, in my case that WILL be smoking or maybe eating, BUT that should only be if ive already done summit wrong.
Again it like cameras in a way only maybe more so, that if you dont spot a camera on a 12ft mast then maybe you ARENT paying enough attention to whats happening ahead of you, reading far enough forward. Ok on clear open road that may not be the case depending how far it can zoom clearly, (cameras where I used to work could zoom a fooking long way clearly).
I know in reality it wont work like that , but maybe they should also need to provide the video eveidence of the original offence for it to be admissable as eveidence ?
Mind you they probs are constantly recording anyway and will have that as well, just keeps like the last hours events recorded on the disc and doesnt overwrite it in that time untill no other acts need recording for evidence then it could overwrite and start again, so not beyond the realms of possibility again.
Oh and just for the sake of it again, shall we drag up all the old arguments of how me smoking dont make me a worse driver than if i wasnt smoking :P
Like Stu said i very rarely drive with two hands on the wheel anyway smoking or not, so makes no difference to me, only if i wasnt allowed to smoke i would be stressing as to when i could have one so not concentrating on the road so well !
