What oil do you use in your YB ?
Basically as title, its not a fresh engine, its probably done about 30k from being built and those are all hard miles.
Would you always use a fully synthetic oil regardless of mileage ? if so which one ?
I've always got on with Shell Helix semi synthetic in my own engines (non YB) I see Halfrauds are doing Mobil One cheap at the moment too !
Thoughts and suggestions please

Got some 300V motul for the new engine im building, current one just gets any old 10/40 - 15/50 semi or fully synth depending on what is lieing about.
On a YB I cared about, I would recomed either the motul or if you want to save a few quid then silkolene.

Mobil 1 Motorsport 15/50
Is recommended by several of the Cosworth tuning companies such as Collins/GGR etc. So good enough for me.

Right so Silkolene seems to be coming out on top of the most used Oil.
Who's best to get it from ? Opie Oils ?

Opie sell it, and for a couple of quid a litre more, they also sell the Motul 300V

Surely there is no need to change it so often?

There is every need to change it at 3k, im probably the only one on here that has his oil chemically checked after a Topspeed run. Castrol RS was out of Spec after just
one run down Brunters & had 8% fuel blowpass. I use Silkolene 5/40 which has proved to be the best for my application, showing less than 2% fuel blowpass & maintaining its Spec after repeated runs.

Fair enough for track use and top speed runs. I dunno if mike 1 does that or not. Should have asked.
For normal road use tho it shouldnt need changed that often surely?

Why do people go for such thick oil like 15/50 - that must be very hard for the engine on coldstarts...I understand the 50 - but seems very thick oil when cold? I use Mobil 1 5/50 and change every 3K - works great

People writing on this subject say 'my engine likes or dislikes a certain oil' how do you know what your engine likes.
