Default V.A.G. 1.8T Engines!!!

im looking to get an estate to have sitting a milimeter off the ground with some dish wheels but also needs a bit of umph!

looking at VW passats and Audi A4s which both come in the 1.8T versions.

wanted to know what similarities these engines have to the 1.8 GTi engines that go into golfs, are the passat/A4 1.8t 20 valves? Tuneability?

Any info on the engines would be fab

gt2871r or similar will see you 350bhp with minor mods, nice engine with plenty of mods, steer clear of the usual cheap ebay mods though. In standard 150bhp form they are pretty wet but do the job. Club gti / ukmkIV forum are a must. I had a gti 20vt anniversary golf, great car but got bored chaseing bhp with it.

A4 are the same engine but are mounted longitude rather than transverse, exhaust from the turbo back will be different and inlet is different

I think they are longitude because my A4 was a B5 model which shared parts with the passat which was based on the same B5 platform (pre-facelift version of the above pic) - i had to get a driveshaft and it came from a passat. Used to get my parts from VW cos my local Audi dealer was a C**t and wouldn't sell parts if they didn't fit them! i just took the VAG part number off the broken item and went to VW

Most bolt on bits for the 1.8t 20v will fit but the intercoolers, and exhausts will be a different layout. Look on venom motorsport and stuff for exhausts, and Forge for intercoolers. I don't think anything else will be different (could be wrong thou)

The 1.8T engines as generally pretty good. Standard internals can cope with about 350-360BHP (apparently). The 150BHP versions can be easily mapped to 220BHP with the aid of a new chip, exhuast etc

The 150bhp car won't get to 220bhp easily (not a genuine 220 anyway). I've spent a while tweeking my 1.8T and it currently sits at 181bhp and runs 1 bar of boost. The intercooler really seems to struggle as well

My Skoda is 180bhp & K03 turbo, the blocks on all the 1.8T's (transverse at least) ae all the same, the bits that change are the heads, rods, pistons, valves and crank etc.

Don't really know the difference between my Skoda and Golf GTi 1.8T

No difference apart from the ECU map. My GTI anniversary has the name 1.8T engine and KO3 turbo as the 150bhp GTI's but the map is different.

What mods is this with? Ive only heard people quoting 220bhp on other forums, not sure how clued up there are on things though.

Really? I am sure the K03 is bigger than the normal Golf 1.8T - aren't the anniversarys 180bhp (we both have the AUQ engine) and the standard GTi 150?

The 180 model uses the K03s which is not the same as the K03 in the 150 model.

Sorry, But i had to sign up to give you all some information lol

one of the 150 engines have K03s Like the AUQ. Which is the AUM. the AUQ just has a different map

AGU, ARZ etc. All have K03 turbo's. But the AGU Has bigger ports on the head and the inlet manifold than the AUM and AUQ etc.

Not all aftermarket mods will fit every 20V turbo engines. There's different TIP's (Turbo intake pipes) for different models, different coilpacks blah blah blah. the list goes on
