Default House window putty

Help,
I need to do some renewing old cracked broken putty on some windows, as the owner is too tight to get double glazing!!
Is there a best sort to get, never done it before, so any tips would be appreciated as well.
Thanks

youll get it from B+Q. nead it with your hand on a board to get it soft enough .theres a nack to turning it within the palm of your hand and spreading it with your thumb then simply flatten down with a putty knife at an angle ,running it in one smooth action along each edge then remove the excess. its sometimes easier to keep wetting the putty knife if the puttys a bit sticky.

Thanks for that, I will get some B&Q stuff then, didn't know if what had been used before was cheap stuff or something but guess it doesn't last indefinitely!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nc1BiA7h2U 1:43 onwards... He calls it glazing compound, but thats the general technique.

I was looking for a demo Tommy Walsh did that was fairly informative but couldn't find it for you.

Linseed oil putty - roll it like a long thin sausage to get some heat into it and place in joint - then putty knife like fuzzy says.

I did it to my old house windows.

Rack out the old putty (not it all, but enough to get a good bit of putty into take hold)
Using your fingers (easiest), roll the putty up in a sausage, then press in.
Using a wet knife (or finger), spread the putty to make sure that it sticks to the window and frame to that it is water tight.

Very easy, but boring after you've done 3 windows!

These guys are going about it all wrong. I work for a glazing company.

What you do is, you shout one of the Poles out the yard, give him your address and send him round to do the job
