I spent a while without contact from my dad a while back. Went back to see him and he'd had a heart attack and nearly died in that time.
What ever has happened between you for the last 20 years, put it behind you and live for now. You can't replace your parents.

only wish i could be excited about seeing my parents
dont want to get into it here just hope it all goes well as you obviousley have a lot of catching up/drinking together to do
imagine it takes a lot more guts to do it than it would seem

funny thing is i am a very confident normally(as anybody who knows me will tell you) but this has got me bad
also found out he has 2 young (6 and 8 years old) boys so might go round on the fireblade that should win them over

Well done for making the effort mate. Will be good meeting you half brother's too I ain't spoke to my Dad in 6 years odd (Can't stand his controlling new wife), so decided to send him a Christmas card last year (Brother has his new address). As I didn't put his new wife's name in the card he phoned my brother (I put my number in the card saying "Ring me") and asked him to ask me to write another one and put her name it
I told my brother to tell him

I didnt see my dad for 15 years so totally understand how you must be feeling.

i know how your feeling. im off to australia at christmas to see my dad who i havent seen for 35 years since i was 3 with no contact at all until i was 30 when he traced us through the internet.

Best of luck mate, don't go in too deep too soon though.
My g/f has never in 43 years seen either of her parents, though we don't know if they are still alive, or anything about them, her uncle who "looked" after her(not) for a while is alive, but I'm just waiting for him to step out in the road in front of me, hopefully he'll die a very slow and painful death.
I am sure your dad will be just as nervous, probably more so with two young kids, as he doesn't know what you are like.

Hope it all went well. I didn't see my dad for nearly 13 years, we got on quite well for a while. Just recently we haven't seen eye to eye again and we havent really spoken since before Christmas 2007.

well just got back and it went so much better than I thought
he came across as a very nice bloke very easy going lust like me, so its all good
the first thing i said was that i wanted to leave the past in the past
I have 2 more(already had 3 brothers and 2 sisters) very nice younger brothers its going to get expensive at xmas
so far so good and i am glad i did it now
