This is YB tuning the way it used to be
done back in the day
The likes of Dave Brodie, Graham Hathaway
would be proud of this project!
It's exactly how they found the limits of the YB
engines years ago - long before many of the
"essential" parts that are fitted to todays big
power engines were invented!

This is interesting as i may well bung the engine from my escos i get into the saff and just bung a GT40 on it with the Mike R plenum set of air to air and go 8 x greys and map my S8...i feel that if i modify my current map i could produce between 5500rpm to 8000rpm quite a fooking weapon...of course the flaw here is grip has i cant acheive any with current tune unless i bung it in the escos...but then transmission will be the flaw ...scrap this idea..ROFL.

Been researching Materpower turbos a bit...
Thatl do wont it?
Found their website too...
http://www.masterpower.com.br
Let the intro play for some bangin music
Ok on the masterpower turbo lets just say they are the Bazilian equivelant of garrett based styled turbos.....and they are very very good turbos......
on my E30 M3 I use one of their turbo's for the 610 RWHP and 700 RWTRQ I made......they are a solid turbo which was initially designed for trucks .....

Stu.....like you i'd use my map as the base...and add what i think would be the correct fuelling (obviously monitering det and af ratios.....i feel my ignition map is perfect if not a little dangerous...and whatever else i would need to do
So to you
Just cause your a God in tuning dont mean us little folk with a programmable ECU are stupid...ok me excluded ...we all read books to learn.

My ignition map will be easily modified to cope with the 5500rpm say spool up time.......at the mo i have a 4300rpm spool up time..so i got to modify 1200rpm...then from 5500rpm to 8000rpm i will put less ignition than i got now .....the engine is virtually the same comp ratio as mine so bottom end ignition will be fine imo.
Aye good to see you getting irritated by me again

Doug- They cheap as its made in Brazil, and think of the wages they pay in Brazil compared to USA etc where most turbos are made...
And to be honest they not INCREDIBLY cheap, but they are cheap.
You look at costs of US made turbos from the wholesalers in the USA, and then look at the costs they then sold on for in the UK (im thinking turbonetics as an example), then its a joke, talking 800quid vs over double that...
I wouldnt buy one myself until i had more proof that they good, but for a test engine like this, or generally a cheaper engine build than the one im doing, then i think its well worth the risk...
ALSO! Ive also seen in my searching, at least 2 warning NOT to buy these dead cheap T70 turbos thats been advertised on Ebay a lot lately under various names (they usually got garrett branded compressor housings), unless they MasterPower ones, as the others, as i expected, are just tidied up diesel jobs that blow to bits...

I don't think I could lose it completely Stu, as I was going to base the new engine on the block. If you test it to it limits It could be blown to smitherines

Steve, the thing about std components is true. I got fancy cossie rascing pistons in my engine, but i bet the std mahles would be fine for some big power. And u can do a rod from det - ive done it... Smashed it pieces.
Need to find a turbo for a cvh - dont see the point of t34 - too old.

With regard to donations, could a list be put together of the bits that would be needed? I for one would love to contribute to this but dont know a great deal about building a cossie engine from scratch, mine came with one when I bought it. I have bits kicking around, as do alot of people i would think.

Testing the future
good idea for a project.
fund it by raffling it 10 quid a ticket - what kind of budget does it need? surely no more than 5 grand for parts, but then karl and stu's time would be required, as well as a dyno as mike says. 500 tickets and you've done it.

to request how thay want to proceed - sure they are not looking for a lot of dosh, as the whole idea is based on simple/cost effective big power tuning

I dont think itd cost much, i mean, i dont think we need a NEW YB engine do we, just a decent condition one, or maybe all the 2nd hand bits to make one, and just new bearings n rings.
2nd hand audi wastegate, turbomaster turbo, adapted 2wd manifold, 2wd coolers welded togehter, blah blah, shouldnt cost much...

My Engine (41,000 miles from new), T4 Turbo, Greys, and everything you need is available for the project, as long I as get it back when it's finished. And I'll make the car available for any features you want.
How's that !!!!!

Karl hasnt expresed an interest in proceeding with this project yet folks so slow down, dont forget this was started by a sheer chance comment this afternoon
I personally dont want paying a penny for my time as im interested enough in teh outcome to spend a good few hours of my spare time playing with this toy

As for turbo - I think they are planning something quite a bit bigger than a T4

This was always my idea for my engine... The most bhp/torque available from a standard YB, using just injectors and Turbo, + the right ancillaries which I already have.
