Default Can a blowing/leaking ex manifold make bad fuel consumption?

my 200sx has become really shit on fuel and it seems like its happened over night, now the only obvious fault with the car is the exhaust manifold is blowing and thats just started at the same or similar time to when i noticed fuel economy drop!

anyone?

On a 200SX? Yes, definately. They are reknowned for Turbo Gasket failure too. Make sure you use genuine Nissan gaskets when you do it.

Could be the cause. Might be playing havoc with the Lambda if you have one? Too much air getting in, ecu thinks its running lean and adds more fuel....

Had a 24v Scorpio once with a cracked manifold, it ran like a pig and went into LOS mode, not fun when I had 50 miles to go, but it got me home!

thanx for the replies guys.

christian i've got 2 studs missing off the manifold where they've snapped when previous owner was changing to aftermarket and its started to make a raspy noise. i also think turbo gaskets are gone as i can hear the turbo spooling from the passenger footwell. How much of a job are the turbo gaskets?

rossco the car is shit slow now, cant even hit 1bar but im just cruising around till its all sorted!

We take the whole turbo/manifold assembly off and replace most of the gaskets. The head-to-manifold one we try to re-use if possible (its a steel multi-layer gasket as standard), because its almost £60.

Generally, we replace all the studs/nuts too.

Takes us around half a day, but we've done loads.

where the 2 studs are missing its coz the old ones have snapped and are now stuck in, is this a head out job?

got a rough cost?

Yes thats right.

If studs are snapped in the head it can be an arse. We have done them in place, depends which ones and whether you can get to them with a drill. Usually a few drill bits are used, possibly Helicoils too. One of those jobs that you just can't predict the outcome of.

Certainly needs sorting though, one way or the other.
