Default if id broken my ankle this morning....

...would i be able to walk on it at all now? its badly swollen around the ankle bone after a fall from scaffold and if i stop for a while its harder to start walking again. its slowley got worse since this morning but i still can walk on it. theres no obvious sign of bones jutting out or anything . i can wiggle my foot slowly and painfully if i lift my leg. does that sound more like ligament or muscle damage than bone?
id much rather risk an internet diagnosis than my local hospital

Get it checked out m8, i suffer with my ankles after breaking both of them and not getting them sorted at the time . sometimes i cant even walk because it hurts too much.
A few weeks in plaster or a lifetime of pain ? i know which one i would choose if i could

Get it x-ray'd if you even think you might have broken it bud, if it is broken the longer you leave it the worse it could be.

As shit as hospitals are, get to A & E just to be on the safe side. You really don't want to be trying to walk about with something broken for days/weeks.

I've torn a ligament twice now, and I couldn't walk on that. Very sharp pain when I put any weight on it at all. Some people say the pain is worse than a break.

If you can hop on it a few times before it hurts I would not even call it an injury!! Slight sprain maybe.

Don't think so from what you've said in this thread. Think you need to get over to Glasgow, the folk are all solid over there...could learn a lot from them.

I've gone over on my ankles god knows how many times over the years playing football and I always remember the 1st time I did it properly, went to the docs expecting the worst but the first thing the Nurse said to me as I walked into the room was "well you've obviously not broken it or you wouldn't be walking in here". Turned out I'd torn a ligament (but in actual fact these take longer to heal than a broken bone )

get yourself to A&E mate.

i broke my foot plate clean in half playing hokey and thought it was just a strain. after two years of it giving me jip now and again got it looked at. big zig zag crack through the middle that had naturally healed on the piss slightly!

now everytime i play football it swells up after an hour or so! FAIL!

I fractured mine in two places, went to the local hospital and the nurse advised as I may of sprained it.It nearly doubled in size and went black along with my toes.A week and a half later back to the hospital.Another nurse couldnt believe as I had been walking around on it.X-ray showed fractured in 2 places, that was May 2007 and it still hurts sometimes now ! I had fallen off my moto cross bike and I had to get back up and kick it up,that hurt.

well that seems pretty decisive. i need to stop being a pussy and get on with it. if it falls off tomorrow ill try to get to hospital. hospitals are coonts of places, ive been there with 6mm hole drilled through my finger with the drill bit still in and with kidney stones and needing morphine injections but the nurses still look at you with rolly eyed disdain as if your wasting their time with non injuries
and especially if i go there with a sprain and end up infected with a superbug.

I went over on my ankle when i was about 12 playing tennis, it was sore, and got a bit swollen, thought it was sprained, so just went home and stayed off it for the rest of the day/night. next morning, it was up like a pudding, went to casualty, x-ray, it was broke. i would go and get it checked mate, even when you think its not broke, it could be.

I had a motorbike accident about 4 years ago and hurt my left knee.

I couldnt put any weight on it because as soon as I did, it just tried to twist and bend on its own and I fell to the floor everytime I tried.
Drove myself to hospital as nobody would take me, took me nearly 20 mins to get from the car park to reception and finally sat down. BLISS!!!!!!

Finally got called in and the tosser made me walk/hop what seemed to be round the whole hospital to get to the room. Done the examination, no x-ray and said 'ok Mr Ryder, you just have a bad sprain. Take it easy for a few days and it will be fine'.

I asked for some crutches and he said 'no you dont need them, you are fine'. After watching me walk/hop up the corridor, he called me back and gave some crutches. Wanker.

6 months later, still couldnt walk properly so was ordered by my boss to get it seen to.

Saw the specialist. All ligaments in my knee were totally fucked and the kneecap damaged. One operation to try and fix it later, Knee totaly shafted. Needs to be reconstructed/rebuilt meaning several weeks off work which I cant do.

So even if you do go the hospital, you could come out of there no better or possibly worse!

On the upside my Physiotherapist is fit as!!! Lol!

I feel your pain Kitchen Devil, I really do. I’ve been there. I completely smashed my hip in, and was fucking ruined. I spent most of the morning climbing into the car, and every speed bump made me scream. My hip was completely crushed, as was my pelvis. I finally got into the car, and I knew I was going nowhere. I called my Brother who helped me back into the passenger seat, and he took me to my local hospital. They came out to the car, as I was punching the dashboard in pain I can only compare to having your Bollocks twisted and ripped off whilst dipped in Vinegar. They got me a wheel chair and after lots of messing got me into the hospital. They told me I had done some serious damage, and sent me to the main hospital with a note. I arrived, and the note basically said ‘Major Damage, to be seen immediately’ I was seen immediately, only to be told I’d bruised my backside, and was being a girl, etc. I was sent home, and wasn’t even allowed crutches. When I was slowly raising my leg, he grabbed it and rammed it in the air, and I was in so much pain I couldn’t even scream.

To cut a long story short, over a year later and I still wasn’t any different. Months passed and my hip had set in a funny position, so my knee was constantly bent, and I was by now used to the pain. After seeing thee best UK specialist, it took a student physiotherapist to diagnose me, who claimed any pain in the knee comes from the hip. Problem found, and a new ‘Rolls Royce, titanium hip later, I am fixed. I can’t grumble, I am in the process of suing them, and I suspect I’ll get enough for a mint Escos and lots and lots of change.

Mal – Always ask for a second opinion, no matter what.

Benni.

he didn't have a stroke

but all kidding aside, he should be going to the hospital, in the middle of the night most peole aren't there so it's quiet, whichmeans long queues, so get there first thing in the morning at like 6am and it's empty

when i broke my wrist (4pm) i went home feeling sick but i still drove home through southall
went dierctly to bed, didn't go past go, didn't collect any dinner
got up about 4 hours later in total agony
applied frozen peas to said wrist
called my boss and told him i was broken and would not be in work the next day
went to a&e for 8am
had to wait for the specialist (apparently i've got bone spurs on my wrists, more onthat later)
he said "broken wrist, procced to cast room, don't pass xray department"
and, at 9.15am, i was outside with a plastic thermo cast on (pink) slowly smoking into the morning air as it cooled
5 weeks later, i went back to have it cut off and a new one put on, this one was blue
then another 3 weeks later i was back again, to have it cut off, and another one put on, this time it was yellow
3 weeks later, that came off
and it was another 2 months before i could drive proerply again
and my wrist is still not fully operational as i've only got 85% flexability in it

so get down the hospital and make out ilke you are a little girl and everything hurts

Maybe fractured. A lad at work came back from holiday with severe pain. It turned out he had fractured it, but because he never got it seen to, it started to set. So they had to re break it.....

Ouch!

I broke the triangular bit when I was kite jumping 18 months back. I walked it off for about 4 miles round a car show. Had to go to the doctors a month later as it kept giving me jip. Had to have months of physio therapy and it's still not right now.

Go to the doctors/hospital and get it xray'd.

Benni - Good old NHS for you eh?! Lol!

Knee doesnt bother me so much generally but does keep dislocating the kneecap on a regular basis and hurts all the time but you get used to it!

Only thing that does piss me off is trying to push the clutch down on my saph because its so stiff and really hurts after a while! Hydraulic conversion on the way methinks!!

If only I had been diagnosed properly the first time round, things may well have been better but hey ho.

I agree though, best go and get it checked out just in case.

this is the bruising and swelling that i awoke to this morning, not to bad and i dont think its broken. its suddenly got much less painful since dinnertime. i think its because i shot myself in the finger with a nail gun so the pain has been diluted somewhat.
no accidents for months and 2 in 2 days.
