Lift the boot floor carpet up. the first thing you should do. put the back seats forward all the way and look under the carpet there too. Prone to rotting there. also there is an inspection plate in the boot, the fuel tank is under there and the fuel pipes rot out there too. check sill and rear chassis rails. Also check for lash in the gearbox and make sure you try it in low and high box and diff lock etc etc

basically they rot everywhere, i have about 7 i am breaking, as said boot floors, rear body x member and mounts, inner/outer sills, rear inner arches near the seatbelt mounts, floors round the seat bases and seatbelt mounts, inner wings, front body mounts, complete rot boxes, try looking for a jap import one, mechanically they are pretty good the 300tdi,s are a bit prone to cracked heads

maybe better keep your eyes open for an early TD5? i bought 2 within the last 6 months for under £1500.....

well depends what your using them for, i had a shogun for 4 years and it was a good car..then i drove a 4.2 landcruiser and the shogun was crap in comparison.

if its for using offroad the landrover is the best of the bunch straight out of the box....if you can find a 300 disco without much rot

Thanks for the info guys, I looked at shogun pajeros but you look like a complete pikey. Doesnt bother me but does the mrs

Found a rot free 300tdi, bit of superficial on body work but nothing major and has had a new boot floor. And no gearbox noises whatsoever!

thanks again.
