One fact about yourself

Also a Brass Band man played in Brass bands for over 30years, 8 in the Championship ( COCHYN knows what that means ) . One appearance at the Albert Hall & several 2nd Section Finals. Appeared at the Palladium with Billy Connelly when he asked for a 8-piece Brass Band in his show, remember comming up out of the stage. In the same week played fanfare when Joan Collins switched on the Xmas Lights at Liberty's & went to her party afterwards.
All seems a long time ago stopped playing in 1986.

i got kicked in the balls when i was younger and had to have a belt that kept them out of the way of my legs,i hardly noticed the kick,it was more like a brush.
i shagged a ex in a open plan living room while her mum hoovered the stairs.
ive been arrested for and cautioned twice for being drunk and disorderly.

I now know why you are so competative....wish people on this forum could understand that its never malice intended, its simply banter of the most dignified/professional manner. Simplest way to explain it is, passionate Liverpool and Manchester United fans when they play against each other x 10. Band politics are the worse kind! And I guess no one can understand it unless you've performed professionally in Music.

I called Charlie from busted an ugly monobrowed loud mouthed c***.
First time I ever (and only time) I used that word.
He was being a complete dickhead at a gig I was at in Peterborough cause his little brothers band was playing...noone could hear them over his childish fucking cheering and whooping from the back of the gig.

Quality thread!
Been thinkin' for ages for one. They are either a bit lame, boring or something i wouldn't put on a public forum. (All the best ones)
Most suitable one i can come up with is; I once heckled tv legends Trevor and Simon when they did a gig in Oldham! Got a laugh too! lol

Christ mate, 3 years after I was born, you think you could have waited until I competed against ya! Who did you play for and what instrument?

Ah!! Band Politics same in Wales then .
Based in the South so not to the Standard of the North or you Welsh lot , played for Martin Grant Band (dont exist now) & Aldervalley Brass who reached 2 National Finals.
Started on Rep & then several years on Sop before moving to the front row eventually reached bumper-up but never a soloist like yourself. Good lip & good section man were all I had to offer. What was your instrument & Band.

I left the local Primary School (5 doors down from our house) to go to a bigger/better run one in the town near us. The headmistress of the local one said to my mum "your son has issues, he's a destructive hooligan" when I left.... at the time mum and dad put this down to being bored in the classes once I'd finished all the work and waiting for the slow kids to catch up.
About 8 or 9 years later, one sunday afternoon after rugby training me and three friends went to the golf driving range near by... hit a few balls... stole a couple of buckets worth and set off up to my house to hit them at the cows in the field out the back of the house.
That got boring after a short while punching holes in the garden fence and missing all the cows completely... we set off to the end of the street and unloaded the remaining 80-90 balls into the primary school windows.
Police were called, got a hiding from dad, was grounded and the most annoying bit was proving what the Head Mistress said was true. Bastard.
Cheers,
Grant

I remember Alder Valley doing well around the very early 90's, but I was pretty young at that point. But I believe they were in the Championship section at that point.
I started on the Flugel, then moved onto Cornet for a short spell with a local 2nd section band. Went well for the first 4 years and reached the 1st section. Got 4th in the area for the first time, but I think the band got a little too big for their boots because of that result...so I left for bigger and better things. Moved and stayed on Flugel and played with Point of Ayr before they broke up, which was a sad day. Then spoke a lot with my cousin Paul Hughes (played the actual Concerto d'aranjuez solo in Brassed Off) and I went and stood in a few times at Grimey in concerts. Otherwise, it was back and forth between Beaumaris Band and another local band.
Commitment is a b*stard of a thing
Wouldn't call myself a soloist, just really like what I do. Seems to work at times
