Default F1 rule change

Yet another change for this season.

The drivers title will now be decided on wins, not points. What twat thought of that one?

This means the end of season finales like we had last year. Love or hate Hamilton, it was an interesting last race.

Does this mean that other formula's will follow suit? Hope not.

What do you all think?

I think F1 is insanely boring mate TBH !!! Never watch it, watching races is like watching a 180mph parade lap.

Atleast they will be all trying to finish first rather than settling for a safe second or third place.

I don't think it's a bad idea. It will increase the chances of people going for the win. Or potentially "accidentally" crashing into rivals near the end of the season.

Potentially (though unlikely) the Title could be secured after 10 races which is less great.

We won't see much difference over the course of a year though. It will still be between 4-5 drivers. Though Massa would have won last years.

its a load of bollocks!!!!

a championship is about consistency! why reward hit and miss driving if someone is consistently coming first, second or third in each race??? it will just mean more kamikaze driving with more crashes, i.e. more cost to teams to replace cars that are battered...

IMO

make 1st = 12 point 2nd = 8 points then the rest as they are

more incentive to get 1st, but you can still win if you are consitently 2nd, if the guy who normal comes first is hit and miss...

I think it is a stupid idea it's only gonna make it harder for other drivers to win the championship this year as it wont be more open for others so it's only 1st or nothing, I think most drivers will give up having points makes it more interesting.

would hardly have changed the results of the championchip since 1980.....would only have changed about 4 seasons, someone broke it down on another forum earlier on. Mansell would have been a 3 time champion tho

I'm kind of for it........it means that less people will be happy to sit there secure in second place if they could win

However stewards decisions now have much more significance as demoting someone from a win to second via a stop go could now cost them the title not just 2 points.

A ten place grid penalty is now a disaster for a top driver

Rule changes are shite to me. I was looking forward to the season with Brawn doing so well in testing but now its all a bit of a joke. The FIA do these surveys to see whatthe fans want and do the f'ing opposite.

Agreed. A true champion is consistent. A driver who has the most race wins is not necessarily a true champion. So a driver can come second in every race with various people winning the race, yet he's still not crowned the champion? Load of bollocks of you ask me.

You can just imagine the powers that behind there desks thinking, ooooooo if it was decided on race wins then massa would have won! Ok sod it, we'll change the rules to give him/ferrari a better chance next year.

Example from 2 people meting in the pub.

Mike: Hey, Ben, you are following F1 right?
Ben: Yes thats correct.
Mike: That bloke Button has become champion right?
Ben: Yes, he had the most victories.
Mike: But Alonso also had a lot of victories.
Ben: Yes, after Button he had the most victories.
Mike: But why has Massa finished 2nd in the championchip then?
Ben: He had more points then Alonso.
Mike: But he also had more points then Button?
Ben: Yes, but Button won more races.
Mike: Alonso too!
Ben: Uhh, yes, but it just works like this.

Based on Wins and points scored under the points system at the time ( not standardised to the 10-8-6 etc points of today ) the below list is the list of things that would have been different had the more wins rule been introduced in 1980. As you can see, not an awful lot of difference, most cases seems a better result to me ( as a Mansell fan!! )

2008 - Felipe Massa instead of Lewis Hamilton by one win.

1989 - Ayrton Senna instead of Alain Prost by two wins.

1987 - Nigel Mansell instead of Nelson Piquet by three wins.

1986 - Nigel Mansell instead of Alain Prost by one win.

1984 - Alain Prost instead of Niki Lauda by two wins.

1983 - Alain Prost instead of Nelson Piquet by one win.

1982 - Keke Rosberg would've lost. Didier Pironi, John Watson, Alain Prost, Niki Lauda and René Arnoux all have two wins to Keke's one. Pironi and Watson each on 39 points, each have two second places, Pironi wins with two third place finishes to Watson's one.

1981 - Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost tied on three wins each. Piquet wins on points 50 to Prost's 43. Prost finished 5th in '81 while Piquet won the title.

So what do we think now then?

Surely racing is about coming 1st ! not 2nd or 3rd . Makes sense to me . It might actually force these overpaid so called racing drivers to drive like they used to when the sport was first invented . You never saw Stirling Moss or Graham Hill playing points tactics did you .
