I had one years ago when i was a kid, it used to live outside during summer had a medium sized dog kennel for it full of hay it used to crawl into on a night and go to sleep, it was forever escaping and the neighbours used to bring it back

I had 3 terrapins, adopted them from stevenebm.
They absolutely loved the sun when it came out. Id sit them out the back and they would just lie in it all day
They were proper ninja turtles aswell, tryin to climb the walls and stuff and ending upside down and hissing I think i have some pics of them somewhere from when i used to put them in the bath for a swim...

Yeah they should all be kept warm and if kept indoors need to have a UV light as the vitamins and minerals they got throm their food isnt used properly with out UV from the sun or in theis case arfificial (sp) UV.

No mate, if it did you would be able to get a tan sat in your living room
In a nut shell, in the wild when they bask it serves two purposes, one to warm there body temp as they are cold blooded and two to absorb UV. I have some books in the loft about their care ( was a sad teenager ) your welcome to them if you like

My set up does have a UV lamp and a basking lamp so they do always have UV light.
I actually thought that if you were naked by a window and the sun was shining strongly... you would get a tan!!!

AWWW! theyre so Cute!
Murtle was a Hermans Tortoise!
And yes, you DO need a UV lamp for them, basically there body needs the UV to be able to break down certain vitamins, hence why, even though youre giving them a calci substitute, their body wont be absorbing as much as it should be without the artificial UV!
