best sun rise in southern england?
i have an ambition to get up early and ride my motorbike somewhere to see the sun rise, but would like some suggestions as to where is good please?
i'm thinking of up some hill somewhere, or maybe on the coast?
the weather this week should be perfect and it coincides with me having no job to go to, so i'm going to seize the moment and do it

Good suggestions, thank you. Any more please?
I was thinking Beachy Head / Seven Sisters or Stonehenge / Salisbury Hill but I've been there before and somewhere new is always good to ride

i would have though somewhere on the east coast! seeing the sun come up over the sea is amazing! especially with the sound of the waves! i would reccomend "broadstairs" in kent, just north of dover mate!
Here
but thats because i have seen it before and its amazing! as the beach is down a cliff (stairs going down & a ramp) so all the noises echo around you and there are no traffic noises, just the sea and some gulls and some sun rise!

well, i woke up at 4am today as the weather forecast was for sun from the off and rode to ditchling beacon just north of brighton on the recommendation of Russ above. got there at 5:45 with sunrise scheduled for 6:34
what was the view like? don't know, it was foggy as hell
i decided to ride down to the coast to see if it was any better there, but was just the same at brighton so headed east to seven sisters and beachy head where it was just as foggy
will have to do it again sometime, but sunrise will just get earlier now for a while
got a few pics, but nothing to do with the sunrise
ditchling beacon in the dark
and in the fog
riding close to the edge at beachy head
madeira drive, brighton. home of the speed trials
breakfast at buddies on brighton promenade

Devils dyke (just up the road from your 1st pic) would be your best bet . 360 degree view of the coast and a large percentage of the south downs its where a few professional photographers go to get inspiration .
Shoreham harbour gives a nice industrial theme and you can even get the sunrise as the coastal edge moves round so you can get a full on view of the sea and the sun with brighton pier in the background .
If you ever want to get offshore for a decent view of the land (maybe even sunset) your more than welcome to get intouch and I can get hold of a friends jet boat for the evening .
just make sure you hide the prilla or i might pry the key out your fingers whilst my missus isnt watching ,lol.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Swanage as said is an awesome place. Went for an all night drive one night with the misses at the time, ended up doing Southampton-Cornwall-West Bay-Swanage etc. Stopped there for breakfast and to watch the sunrise (And worry about the copious amount of fuel I was using with my choice of cam and twin carbs ).
Started to come up properly just after the pics were taken...

Cheers! So many happy memories in the old girl, first car about 4-5 years ago (On the road anyway, had a MK2 Cav Calibre in the garage).
Started off all forged, 1641cc, Engle 110 cam and twin 40's and gradually progressed. About as fast a first car as anyone could want I think! Sitting doing nothing, needs reviving for the summer I think for more sunrise runs
