Fao RS6+RS4 Owners
a mate from works selling his 4.2 quatro a6 estate and was planning on getting an RS4 estate thinking an RS6 would be alot more expensive but the RS4 seems to be more expensive??
any reason for this?is the 4 more sought after?
and any feed back from guys whove had either much appreciated.
ps any bits to look out for ie common faults?

the rs4 is more expensive as they were made in a limited run, they only made 420 b5 rs4's for the uk market, dont know how many rs6's were made but think it was into the thousands
tell him too buy an rs4,much better car and more reliable, the rs6 gearbox and suspension always go fucked on them, and cost a fair bit to replace, also the rs4 looks a 10 times better

We had a rs6 avant at out work a 53 plate sold it to a copper he took it to audi for a health check & it needed something done to the suspension seemingly its very common. Scince he had just bought the car it cost my work just over £2.500 to fix it.
It was a while back so i cant be certain what it was.Think the copper done some reading on forums kept sthoom took the car away got it checked because if he had told my work about this before we wouldnt have sold it & just traded it.

RS6
Hi all,
I have just brought a 52 plate RS6. The issues with these cars appear to be suspension and to a lesser extent, gearboxes.
the suspension has what is called a DRC system, this pumps oil around the car to improve handling. However when the shocks leak, they are £175 each, and the valves (which must be done at the same time) are more than £650, and the labour costs are huge. A complete shock change is i'm lead to believe £3000. The 4 suffers from exactly the same problem re suspension. Have a look on the forums in www.246.com that'll give you an idea of where the problems lay.
You can however change to coil overs for approx £1500.
As for the gearboxes, there are lots of horror stories surrounding this. I have however spoken to an Audi parts man who has never had to order one, and an RS6 specialist who has only changed one in the last 18months! I have been told, if you don't abuse it it will be fine.
Be warned though, if it does fail, they cost in the region of 6.5K!
RS4's do tend to be more expensive because they are more sought after, especialy the later ones, but that is more pose value than anything. They will handle better, and not so hard to drive as they don't have as much power, but the 6's are a lot rarer, and a better all round car.
As for the car, they are actualy a lot rarer than an RS4, and would you believe considerably faster. The 4 doesn't have the turbos of the 6, hence the 6 runs at 450bhp, and 0-60 in 4.6! Not many about as fast as that, and scoobies and evo's more than a sec slower, even a DB9 can't match that!
You have to remember though this is quite a heavy car. It doesn't handle like a 4, but having said that, it is (in it's class) only bested by a 4.
It's a great and stunningly fast car, just be careful what you buy, and any spares ain't cheap, and i mean they REALLY ain't cheap.
BUY ONE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
