Chain driven.

All BMW engines are chain driven these days - a few of the older ones were belt (back in the E28 and E30 days).

Aye i assume it will drink around town....... looking at a 320d aswell and a nice tourer at a garage about 1 hour away

hmmm its a tough choice for me tbh 320s are 150ps anyway and a remap will give 330 performance

the 320's are not a patch on the 330's ive had both and the 320'shave a common fault of the turbo crapping its self that happened on my 320 sport £1300 new turbo mines a tourer don't know why but they look better than tha saloon

Don't bother with the 320d - the 6 cylinder 330d is so MUCH better all round - and it isn't as juicy as you would think.

I had the big brother - the 530d Sport last year and that was seeing 45mpg on the motorway and 38mpg round town.

Only managed to get it as low as 21mpg when on the Nurburgring putting in fast laps

If you owned a 320d and then went out in a 330d you know you have bought the pverty model BMW's are meant to be 6cyc!

PMSL i agree Gracie.

D11AKS it gives a nice bit more punch in the mid range! I love'd it. Though did'nt really see much more benefit in fuel if i was tbh.

330 is so much a better motor than the 4 pot. No comparison, especially when remapped and your 330D is keeping up with M5's in most scenario's.

When I get rid of my Bora I'll be looking at a 330d for sure - its like the next logical step IMO!! Unfortunately I cant afford it at the moment mores the pity!!

What common faults do 330ds have if any?? Heard turbos can shit themselves on diesel beemers...is this true!?

i know the 320d's have turbo isues but i have known the 330d's do 200+k's with regular oil services but a common fault is the high pressure diesel pump but can be replaced for £150

My mate has an 53 plate 204bhp 330D Sport.....remaped....280BHP + 420lb ft of torque diesels should not be able to go that fast...

Its almost as quick as my 540i V8 !!!!

went for a run to the coast in mine yesterday my 330d did 44 mpg and my mates 530 sport petrol nearly managed 28mpg on the exact same journey

330d or 530d every time

just needs the remap now

Yes, one of my best mates has one and we regularly have a quick run in various scenarios to see how they go. In a roll on situation he often edges ahead actually. The M5 wins at high speeds, that goes without saying, but round the streets, in real world driving, I couldn't get very far at all from him without driving like a real dickhead.

That said, this is one of my remaps, some 30D remaps are nothing like ours. Don't forget peak power and torque figures mean less on a diesel than they do a Petrol as the torque curve is what makes or breaks a diesel as bad remaps can leave them with no real power band to speak of.

Always liked these, drove one for the first time the other day!
i am usually let down by cars i like and then drive (seat leon cupra r, for example!)
But these things are awesome! They pull so nicely and i love the sound they make.
Totally off topic though, sorry!

Where do you get those numbers from? Likely the 231 model in which case 280 is quite easily achieveable, in fact we have had more than that many times.
