Magazine dayout today at woodbridge with Rob's astra
Well, our targets we set ourselves for today were:
Top speed: 170mph
Speed @ 0.5 mile : 150mph
Quarter Terminal : 125
Quarter Time : 12.59
What Rob actually got
Top Speed: 169.1mph
That was in under a mile though, using hardly any of the available space really, but the car was a little unstable, we think the tracking might be out after my off at bedford a couple of weeks ago
Speed @ 0.5 mile : 149.92mph
Poxy 0.08mph off, SO close!
Tried dialing in a little more boost but by then the headwind we were running into had really picked and it would only must 148 then
Quarter Terminal: 126.5mph
Well happy with that, slightly more than we expected
Quarter Time: 12.63
4 hundreths of a second off setting a new PB for the car, but given it was just on fairly poor quality bit of tarmac, we're feeling fairly happy.
He ran about 15 quarters all in the 12 out of about 20 attempts, with I think it was 10 runs under 12.8, so it was being mega consistant really
I also got a chance on the way back to sort out all the part throttle mapping and idle map etc, so its behaving a lot better now
WELL happy with how that went
The Monaro managed 190.1mph, so not quite at his 200mph target yet, but he was suffering badly with intake temps which were causing his ECU to pull massive amounts of timing out, so he was losing lots of power.
Bigger intercooler and some water injection should sort that, but that is pretty much what he expected to happen today anyway as he was really just using today as a shakedown for the car ahead of the Vmax event at the end of april.

Andy, Toyo 888 road / trackday tyres mate
Mal, yeah thats the bit we were most pleased about, 400+ miles including the drive up and back, loads of abuse all day, and still drove home (well nearly home at the moment as he's still on his way back to portsmouth after dropping me off back in london)

Richie, it was pulling 1mph per second when we looked on the logs when in 6th gear, so 1 more second on the power is all it would have taken him and he had plenty of space left, but as it started to wander about he backed off, I guess if he knew the speed was just under he probably would have braved it out, its not capable of much more than 170 though IMHO as you start eating up so much space at that speed, there might be a 172/173 or something in it if he has ago another day and goes a few hundred yards further, but considering that its only meant as a trackday car, its pretty rapid really to be getting anywhere up towards 170mph in under a mile!

Quick overview of spec, sure rob has a full one written out somewhere.
20XE block and crank
Lightly modded XE head with +1mm valves
Steel rods
XE cams
Custom inlet and exhaust manifolds
GT3071 turbo
Oil squirters
Autronic SM4 mapped by some ameteur mapper from somerset
Calibra 6 speed gearbox
Quaiffe ATB diff
Twin plate clutch
Next step for the engine is to go onto solid lifters like my nova, as we're revving it till 7800rpm and the hydraulics dont like it.

as chip has alaready said, i could not have asked for more today
the performance is mind blowing, the car is fully home grown built by me tuned by chip engine spec'd by me and chip after he taught me what i needed to know to have informed decisions on what spec i want and its very satisfying to meet the goals you have set.
not only did the the car do the times we wanted i drove it 210 miles there and the same back apart from changing the wheels and some plugs i never had to touch the car all day.
so in a way the speed is only one part of the achievments this weekend
couple of other figures from the day
0-60 5.1 seconds
0-100 9.3
so happy with both of them aswell

Happily retired
Had advised Chip that their was more to doing 200mph than just Power the Monaro had over 1000bhp but no WI & an inadequate intercooler, it proved to be correct, with these sorted before its attendance at Vmax it should join the 200+ brigade but they now know it aint easy.

Good to meet you yesterday Chip.
Talkin of 200mph cars, the blue Skyline that was out on track was a 200mph car although had been detuned to 700 bhp for the day. Not bad for a home built car

Nice to meet you both on Saturday afternoon, you should have got Maria down there with a flask, it was bloody cold enough!
Your car looks awsome in the flesh rob, and the black astra - Mk1??
The skyline was crazy, i went to have a look at it once it parked up, Dont it do the 1/4 mile in something like 8 seconds?
Chip, you will have to let me know when you are about this area doing somthing like this again! Im always up for a day out!

The "1000 bhp" Monaro;
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...urrent=019.flv
Was a good day out, the Monaro looked a little disapointing, but did back up some of its power claims with a massive 190mph, that said Rob is a nutter with a shade under 170mph!
Both Tuffty and Bens are also both home built cars, Bens is a nearly standard LET running 8psi of boost but has got an ATB. Tufts car made 270bhp on the rollers but has an open diff.

Interesting link here:

As of the figures today, Rob's car would be in the top 5 acceleration wise and the top 6 for top speed out of all the cars the MLR have tested.
Puts in perspective how quick it is I reckon!

Yes mate, should be in the shops in about 6-8 weeks I think.
I made sure I wont be in any pictures by wearing my Ford Rally, "team rs" jacket
Yeah, no problems getting home.
That box really does need replacing soon I suspect, Rob has a spare one sat there waiting thought for when the worst happens, lol
