Default Bias pedal box

I'm after advice from people who run or have run bias pedal boxes.

I am looking to repipe my brakes and swap the servo for a bias box and a pair of master cylinders on my Series 1, which has AP 4 pots (315mm discs) on the front and 2wd Cossie calipers (270mm discs) on the back.

Any ideas on what size cylinders I would be best off trying?

It's a fully trimmed car estimated weight just over 1000kg's if it makes any difference.

usually .70 for the front, and .625 for the rears.

alot of it is in the pedal ratio Daz, dont just go and buy a box without knowing the pedal ratio, the higher the ratio the easier it will be to press, but the travel will be longer.

The pedal ratio is the same as the standard pedal. I should have said it's a bias box which replaces the servo, not a complete pedal box.

So what is the reason for the larger displacement cylinder feeding the smaller capacity rear calipers as per Spiky and Martin's reply?

daz, i have indeed got it the wrong wey round lol.

why? the .70 has a larger surface area, so less pressure will be applied. you dont want the rears locking before the fronts, in most cases lol

Any proper info on this mate?
I was just looking into getting a compbrake one as it'll solve alot of issues on my build.....main issue of not having £1000+ to blow on a tilton setup.

Right

I fitted my " compbrake " bias pedal box and the ajusting bar hits the steering coloum unless the pedal is pressed until about 2 inch from the floor

I checked everything but simply couldnt get it to fit without it hitting .

I rang Tony who told me to contact the owner of combrake who gave me the same bullshit story he gives everyone when the ring and say somthing doesnt fit etc , He then gave me the contact number of the man who makes the pedal boxes for them

I rang this fella 4 times and left 4 messages to ring me back and gave a quick explanation of my problems

,,,,,,,,STILL NO FOOKING RETURNED CALL ,,,,,,,,,

Ps, Tony

I put the ballance bar in the correct way , BUT , just to assure myself i tried it in both ways , and it hits no matter what i do

To be fair paul (and i havnt got a Compbrake one or have any association with Compbrake) there is very little room for error when fitting a bias pedal box in a 3 door..i made mine and its very close to the steering column and i run a Grp A column without all that compression shit on the standard column

oh and do this if its not too late to save your size 11's bending your bulk head

Removing it would always be better but I am not sure which way to go at the minute. Not sure what boxes are out there at the moment.

Sorry to bring a very old thread back to life but im looking at getting one of these compbrake pedal box conversions for my series2. Has there been any development with the replacement that does away with the bar?

Can anybody else recommend compbrake, or maybe another make which is a direct fit.

i'll forget about losing the bar then. Might just get that pedal box twin master cylinder thing from compbrake as i think my brake servo is knackered anyway.

years and years ago i bought a pedal box and stuff from burtons

cost about £3-400 all in with the pipework, can't remember as it was a long long time ago but my isues were getting the resivours to sit properly wihtout dropping lower than the cylinders they were feeding

this was a fit in the engine bay box rather than fit under the dash box

Ive since learnt that fitting one of these will make stopping in normal on the road driving conditions a nightmare.

Can anyone suggest a good brake setup for me? I currently on my series2 rst have the non abs set up with the proportioning valves in engine bay and i have cossie calipers and discs all round. We bleed the brakes up a few times but pedal feel was never great, plus the car hasnt moved yet has lost brake fluid, theres no patches on the garage floor either, knackered servo?? master cylinder leaking into servo?? Really dont know what to do.

The master cylinder is shifting the same amount of fluid but the calipers are bigger and require more fluid so you need mote push to vet the same fluid movement. Fit q bigger master cylinder.

No worries mate when I was doing mine I also thought it was going to be a good thing but you need legs like arnolds to press the pedal to give you the same stopping power

Then I went remote servo and that was for the front curcit so it braked much better and I was able to adjust the bias front and rear. It's total overkill for a road car though and if you can find a normal servo master cylinder combo that does the job you will be so much better off

Someone is the rsturbo room is doing a mk5 swap which looks good but if you are bolting stuff into a sierra then you simply use the servo and m/c combo from any dohc sierra from 90/92 as they all came equipped with discs all round
